When Hextall moved Schenn, I still feel that was the right time to blow it up and rebuild fully.

Simmonds, Voracek and Giroux would have brought you hauls at the time.

Summer 2013 was the right year to blow it all up. They’d missed the playoffs and lost Pronger to a career ending injury. Timonen and Briere were at the end of their careers. Briere and Bryz were bought out with the compliance buyouts. Timonen got them 2 2nd rd picks 2 years later so would have gotten them more in 2013. They’d have also had G, Voracek, Simmonds, Hartnell & Coburn (who was traded 2 years later too) to all move for prospects and picks. That group would have brought back a kings ransom. That summer they had the 11th pick, maybe they could have put a package together to move up. 2013 draft had Mackinnon and Barkov. Then the ensuing drafts which they’d have been rebuilding had
2014 - Ekblad & Draisaitl
2015 - McDavid & Eichel
2016 - Matthews & M. Tkachuk
2017 - We all know this draft but as a lower seed they don’t win the lottery and take NP. Maybe they get Heiskanen or Makar.

Instead the Flyers went and got MacDonald, Streit, Lecavalier, and Mason in order to try to stay competitive…and here we all sit, a decade later, with the Flyers holding the 12th pick and fewer high end assets to move in order to rebuild and watching 2 teams in the final that did acquire high picks during that time period. But hey, there’s more than one way to build a team right? Right?

Not sure I agree there. Maybe in the first season after. But then he put up 102 points and should have won the MVP in 17-18. Put up 85 points in 18-19, and has been pretty productive in Ottawa.

I thought he played really well on Florida too

At the time I really had an issue with the term. But not really any more.
