There's no way they use either 1st rounder on hockey player who is 18 yrs old, that big with a herniated disc already.

That's just bad GM'ing. I wouldn't take him at 34. Waste of a pick

- vabeachbear

Lumbar Disc Herniation is a common athletic injury and is overcome with exercise, it very rarely requires surgery.

Well based on the videos I've seen I'm a big fan of the big Russian
- BetweenTheDots

The comparisons I’ve read are a better skating, better skilled Chara or a poor man’s Victor Hedman.

Picked up my annual copy of the Hockey News Draft edition and it’s very different than allot of the prognosticators. Silayev is the highest ranked defenseman at three, Buium at four, D!ckinson five and Levshunov at seven. is the lowest I’ve seen Levshunov ranked. I was thinking if Chicago went with a defender Levshunov was the guy, now I have no idea what to expect?

Here you go Paul, get more confused. I have no clue who the Hawks should pick. I haven’t seen most on TV, none of them live. Heck, watching Michigan last year, I couldn’t tell the difference between Nazer and Gavin Brindley, and one went 12 and the other 34 in the same draft.

I was going to suggest we all take a guess as to who KD selects with the second overall. I was sure he’d select Lindstrom, now I haven’t got a clue. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well I'm going with who i would draft, it's true i would like to see these players live because i was really impressed with KKs athleticism live at the same time Vlasic was the best dman on the ice. Levshunov seems stiff to me like Seth Jones when it comes to dmen, he'd be a solid pick but i would draft Silayev. To me at worst you get a 20+ minute dman but i just can't shake how he looks like Roman Josi skating on the ice. To me there's so much potential to his game.

When I said who I thought would get selected I didn’t mean who I wanted. I meant who I thought KD would take. I’m now leaning to your guy, I think KD will take Silayev.

Lindstrom injured his back doing squats while he was out with a wrist injury.

I have been hoping we trade to get the 6th or tenth choice and take either Silayev or Yakemchuk in one of those slots- could be both are gone though.

At 6th there should be an intriguing dman or someone slipped to 6th. Take maybe a bit of a gamble and take Lindstrom 2nd or be safest and take Levushonov. At 6th or tenth perhaps Demikov still available if all these prospects gone by tenth then maybe Caton is your choice

I believe this news drops him into the teens at least, he may actually be there for the 18th pick

50 years ago:
New York Rangers star forward Rod Gilbert underwent spinal fusion surgery at a New York City hospital. Early indications suggest that the operation was a complete success. The operation, which took over three hours, was performed by Dr. Kazuo Yanagisawa, the Rangers club physician.
He played at a hifgh level afterward.

Was anyone expecting Lindstrom to play in the pros nxt year?

Have these surgeries improved vastly in 50 years?

I would not believe it IF he DID drop to #18.

(I guess I will change my board...)

I hear you Wiz but not every case is the same. At some point risk management comes into play.

Less than 50 years ago they couldn't fix Bossy's, Bolland's or Daze's backs. The back can be tricky.

All depends what stage of herniated disc was.there are 4 stages. None are good. All reports though it's not as serious as it sounds.
- Scott1977

Ummmm... Hard pass.

My wife had fusion surgery 13 years ago, and just had to get two more discs fused in January.

And there is a bulging disc right above the two surgeries.

It's a degenerative condition. It never gets better, and gets worse over time.

Again, hard pass

Its also degenerative, chronic with time. Playing hockey is what probably caused it. Too bad for the kid.

Very true but that is what Davidson and company has to do their due diligence and talk to medical doctors and determine if this going to be a chronic thing or this just isolated situation in which can come back 100% . I still think levashov is the pick another name to consider is Catton I think if he was
Bigger he be in consideration for the top three.

Scott, a herniated disc does not get better with time… especially playing hockey.

This just an hypothetical and have no idea the status of this player Joel farabee from Philly. Would give up the 18th pick and 50th pick or prospect for him.

Who was their 2nd OA? Demidov? Also, where did they have Yakemchuk?

Now take a look at the first goal and explain what McDavid was doing. On the third goal watch Ekholm along the boards and explain that. Bouchard has not had a great series for sure. Trying to do too much, not getting his shot through, asked to play almost 30 minutes per game against a better team and a goalie who is in everyone's head. Hedman, McAvoy, and Fox are all playing golf while this very average defenseman is 2nd in points overall, 2nd in points even strength, 3rd in +/-, and playing for the Cup.
- stevefrmglencoe

These are nonsense propositions…

It’s entirely irrelevant what McDavid and Ekholm did on 2 plays to explain Bouchard’s level of play during the series.

It remains a team sport. Herman, McAvoy and Fox don’t play for the WEstern Conf champions with McDavid and Driasaitl. Only Bouchard has the privilege of being carried by those two into the playoffs and SCF.

Nonetheless and finally, none of this takes away from the fact Bouchard is a good piece, only. Fine player. The Hawks wish they had him for sure.

Herniated discs are a very common problem with many athletes and can be chronic but they can also be a one and done issue. The biggest red flag is if surgery is required to repair the problem. In most cases exercise and a stretching program can prevent a recurrence. Should teams be concerned, yes but not overly.

Apparently doing squats is what caused it. And it doesn’t necessarily become chronic but can be. I know you want Demidov but passing on unqualified incorrect information to a group of internet posters won’t make that happen.

Forget the Russian issue, but Demidov suffered 2 Kner injuries this year, including in the finals when he was seen on crutches. Does that disqualifiy him also? Has anyone seen him on skates since?

Havard medical, Cleveland clinic and the mayo clinic said that the disk can heal over time depending on the severity of the tear and steps taken to let it heal.

Kinda depends on the patient. Doesn't seem to be chronic unless it isn't treated or its injured again due to not letting it heal
