I think he was finally changing his mindset and making moves for the better of the team.

Last year the leafs looked great when they traded for McCabe, lafferty, Accari, schenn, and ROR.

He finally had a pulse on the team and the ran into the panthers.

One more year with him and what he wanted to do (trade Marner) would’ve had a better outset on the year then what we went through this year.

Tre wasn’t going to make any big decisions whether it be player or coaching and was given the year to evaluate. That year not only killed them with contracts but also competitively and wasted a year a of the teams core prime years.

The nylander talk came out later when the leafs put nylander on the trading block. They didn’t get anything they viewed as a fair trade.

Nylander for Karlsson would be epicly bad. It would make the Kessel trade look good.

Marner is not the reason they lost because 1) injuries they could not overcome and 2) the powerplay was abysmal.
