Honestly I think it’s bacteria from permafrost thaw that’s going to (frank) the cap.

Just want to say I love that the coach is matching his tie with the uniforms.

I can’t wait til we clone Wolly Mammoths.

They’d bring a lot of tourism to Pickle Lake.

What he going to say?

Stop tearing up the league and play more defence?

He’ll have his hands full trying to get Willy to do something other than hangout by the offensive zone blueline.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Apparently he will. Ask Kyrou and Thomas.

13M x 8

If the Leafs could pull that off, it would be the best contract they ever signed.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Not really.
11.5m would be nice.

It’s entirely possible.

Nylander had a career year because it was a contract year.

Mitch always plays strong defence. But he saw what Nylander did and played selfishly to get a huge contract, so there’s no reason why Mitch couldn’t say, “(frank) defence, I’m going for points.”

Nylander will never sniff 90pts again.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

its realistic to expect Nylander to land in the 80-90 points. no issues with that.

Marners /82 point the last 4 season are
100
114
101
101

maybe he is able to reach 110-115 if he has a healthy season. that puts a 25-35 point separation. between them.

but its likely 15 or 20 point diff between them..not 55 lol

Berube will have 16/34 playing together.

Contract year for Mitch.

Willy has zero pressure to perform.

New coach will be trying to break Willy into a defensive responsible player.

Guy isn’t running the PP anymore, so it’ll be better, advantage 16.

50pts is possible.

Btw… wouldn’t it be a good thing if Mitch put up 125pts? Maybe you’re not a Leafs fan, but Leafs fans should be cheering for his success. Its would be good for the team. Sadly not everyone wants what’s best, they’d rather bicker about which player they don’t like.

Why are you cheering for Nylander to be terrible defensively, not care and put up 70 points?

Yes, it would.

The primary concern with Willy isn’t his ability to put up pts, it’s his inability to prevent the other team from scoring.

That’s what Berube will be harping on him about.

And we all know Willy is streaky af.

The goal is not for player X or player Y to hit a certain amount of points or goals.

The goal is a Stanley Cup parade in downtown Toronto.

Whatever combination of players and contracts that increases the chances of that parade should be the target.

If it means moving Marner, so be it. I don't care if he hits 150 points if he stays but the Leafs don't get a Cup. Ditto for Matthews, Nylander, Tavares, Rielly, or the zamboni guy.

My gut tells me the Leafs need to keep Marner and ADD to the team in the form of center depth, a top-4 dman or two, and a legit starter goalie or 1B for Woll. However, the salary cap may not allow that.

If the cap dictates that a big contract has to leave to move the team closer to the Cup, then it becomes a business move and that puts Marner on the hot seat because his contract is coming up.

Whatever ends up happening, half of the fanbase won't like it and we'll be in pissing matches in here over it.

I agree.

Just funny how when Nylander was in a contract year he went postal going after points and everyone was like “wow look how good Willy is!”

But if Mitch does it it’ll be “ selfish little (frank) just trying to get more money for his dad” lol.

But yes, whatever it takes to win a cup is what should be priority.

Berube is going to be looking at Willy’s 11.5M contract, and sparks will be (frank)in’ flying since day one of training camp. Should be a spectacle

This isn't the dichotomy of the argument.

People that want Marner gone in the offseason for whatever reason probably want him to suck in the next location. If he showed up in a Leafs uniform, I'm pretty sure they want him to score at a 150 point pace for two easy reasons.

1. His trade value would be SUPER HIGH! Woo!
2. That point pace probably indicates that the Leafs are doing really (frank)ing great. WOO!

I mean, the scenario where either Nylander or Marner suck next season (playoffs excluded) is unlikely in my book.

Which is why alot of teams would be interested in either player if they were available.

I know you have a Mitchy blow-up doll you bang, and you can still keep it when he's gone, but you should try watching some of the games instead of poopposting on here while it's on.

People hitch their cart to whatever proverbial horse they choose. Once someone makes up their mind about something, it’s nearly impossible to break those neural pathways. That’s why very few people change their politics etc..

So no one who already hates Mitch will be cheering for him to do great on the Leafs. All last season I was rooting for Nylander, whilst cautiously pointing out his downfalls in relation to his defensive shortcomings.

Berube will have a ton of say in personnel decisions. He and Tre will be running things, and Shanny (good) will be in the backseat.

So the way I see it, it really doesn’t matter who is signed or unsigned at this point or whether or not someone has a NMC, what matters is how Chief perceives them, and if he wants them on the team or not. It’s up to the players.
