Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is a restricted free agent and talks with Adams are well on their way. Adams said,

“Those conversations started maybe in March or so and they’ve been productive and I like to make sure we’re aligned on does the player want to be here, do they believe in what we’re doing and ‘UPL’ made it very clear that he loves this team, he loves the city, he wants to be here, we’re excited about him.

I would think 10 weeks was enough time to hammer this out and prepare for the draft and ufa

Rarely pays to be first. His camp should be more than happy to watch the market play out this summer.

Show us the rosters of his first year in Dallas and in NJ, and provide results please.
- washedup20

Jersey last year - 1 80pt player (Bratt), 1 70pt player (Hughes), 1 60pt player (Hischier), 1 50pt player (Meier), 2 40pt players (Hughes/Toffoli).

2013-14 Dallas Stars - 1 80 pt player (Seguin), 1 70pt player (Benn), then 1 40pt player (Goligoski)...their 4th leading scorer was Cody Eakin to put that in perspective.

Pretty easy to see why the time in Dallas didn't go well. That Jersey team looked like it was playoff caliber, but had a .896sv%, .439QS% and 3.12GAA for goaltending. So pretty clear why they missed. Essentially, if they get half way decent goaltending, they're in. The Stars roster looked poopty in comparison to the juggernaut they have today.

I'd say the Sabres can't. UPL could elect two years, straight to UFA.

I'd lean towards UPL not filing. He wants a multi-year and could holdout for it. If he does file, Sabres should be thrilled with a one year deal.

Debatable, kid doesn't have a competitive bone in his body....he plays the 3rd string QB role to perfection.

next summer is going to get interesting

a club can only elect to take 2 guys to arbitration and adams has

levi
johnson
peterka
quinn
byram

gotta think he would like to knock at least 2 out this summer

peterka and byram should be his focus after 6k

Club elected arb is very rare. I don't think it's a factor. Can't even remember the last time they used it. Google says Kaleta.

Whelp I am reading all your awful takes on Hockeybuzz again, which must mean we are about to embark on another Sabres offseason beginning with hope and ending with cope.

Any juicy rumors floating around here I should know about?

Maybe, but I think term is the real issue here. If the right move is to give him whatever he wants, one side is doing this wrong.

I still remember this day

"the Buffalo Sabres bought out rookie Tim Kennedy's $1-million deal, handing a hometown hero $333,333 to leave after a difference of less than $50,000 had separated them in negotiations prior to arbitration"

I think he's really struggling with these guys after handling out term like candy. Bet it played a role in Mitts leaving, and is playing a role on UPL as well (maybe even with Joker).

Ehlers, Buchnevich, Strome, Erikson Ek, Bertuzzi, Kane

They want a top6 forward to add to the mix. Whether we'll get one is the question.

And you should say, "all your awful takes, outside QuinnFan", but we'll work on that later.

Credit where credit is due, the Risto deal was good value. Rosen and Wahlberg, plus the 6th rounder for Hagg, is good value for a bad defenseman.

Other than that you're right. At best he's done swaps.

I mean, Quinn is one of like 3 players I don't blame for last season, so good start

I think we need 4 forwards actually. Two in the top six. I'm on the buyout skinner train, and we only have 8 under contract to begin with.
