That term is the going rate, and the $5M AAV is the Buffatax. - kingcong39
Signing guys like domi over using kulich/savioe would really show the Sabres are serious about winning finally.
I like the thought

If he gets bought out, he would only need to sign for ~$3.5m to break even.. on average over the next several years .. or get like 3x$5.
He gets to choose he destination
Is there a really difference if the Sabres held $4m given his full NMC that he controls who he waives for? - IonSabres
I was thinking about that when all the rumors started a few days ago. The way a buyout is structured is somewhat comparable to a 50% retain. Thinking a little less, maybe 40-45%. Has some advantages and disadvantages. If you're an internal cap team, it mitigates the disadvantages pretty well.
I can easily see Terry preferring it to giving up assets to move him. He'd write him a 2.5m check this year instead of a 10m. Sounds a lot like RoR.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that they'll get a second buyout window if anyone files for arbitration. I would think Joker would file. Never easy to guess how those things play out. They may want someone to. Buys some time to let the trade market and UFA to play out.

I think the biggest part of our goalie issues was our team d and pk
the quality of shots our goalies faced was beyond bad
crouse, colton, trouba helps our 5 on 5 and pk D a lot
6k was top 10 in GAA with bad d, so I expect an uptick if you improve the d as that plays a big part in how your goalie plays
crawford was decent for the hawks when they won cups and blah when they were blah and this example can be used for 85 percent of goalies during their nhl careers - homiedclown
you taint wrong, im just not sold on UPL just yet... and Levi for what its worth.
I just want to make the PLAYOFFS, I dont care f they get Duncan from the geico commercials to play net, just make the F'N playoffs....

This is the last year of a centralized NHL draft. It will be run more like the NFL draft going forward thank God. - ImThatGuy

Maybe trouba for skinner?
Both guys are trade/ buy out candidates
Would need both to agree and waive though
$8 million is a bit pricey for our d budget, even with 2 million retained . He would add some grit and leadership

Sabres about to Pay upl some big bucks
Levi’s gonna cost decent money soon as well.
Best young tandem in the league possibly
Levi wouldn’t be happy with another year in the ahl imo - Boss34
Dustin Wolf is RFA this summer. Levi's agent is paying close attention.
Goaltending might cost them 7m a year from now. If Levi plays well, possibly more.
Hope they are good this year. Definitely nervous about them.

But Pegula would actually only be paying 4mill in Actual Salary. He drops to 6mill in Actual money the last 2 years. |

I’m so tired of every team getting up to the stage with 59 people and all of their children and thanking the city and fans and the draft part and blah blah blah.
Just get on with the picks. |

i get that. doesnt bother me personally that much but i can see that being annoying. first round of the nfl still takes a long ass time and its just the players walking to the stage. (frank), not even all of them are there.

It's not bad, if they are 2 reliable guys. Just something they need to fit in the budget.

I’m trying to be optimistic in regards to goaltending and defense.
Both seem set imo .
Joker trade aside, maybe add 1 more guy?

Just seems like too much $ allotted to 1 position on the team.
Seems like a lot already being allocated to defense |

Lots of upside at the goaltending position
Definitely not sold on upl being the sure #1 guy.
I see a short term deal/ hot hand goaltending this season with upl starting until…….

Can't remember the last time Sabres goaltending went as planned. One guy playing poorly or an injury causes chaos.
Lot of smoke on Johnson getting moved. Just bringing back last seasons D would be unacceptable, imo. Also worried about their depth, with some injury prone guys in that group.

That's what I'd do as well. Term on UPL's deal will tell us a lot about what they are thinking.
I don't think UPL and Levi will co-exist well. UPL's expecting #1 and Levi is not going to be happy for long as #2. Might not be a problem this year, but a concern further out.

Makes sense what you outlined about Levi's mentality considering the pandering they had to do to get him to sign his ELC. |
