That's a (frank) of a gap on the left side that needs to be addressed with probably 10-15 million.

What if the 11th overall draft pick struggles in the cold harsh winter of Buffalo, will the Sabres survive?

Berglund couldn’t even deal with Buffalo and he’s from Sweden

I get the sentiment. Changing your team around the way that this team required is virtually impossible in-season. You got what you got. Yeah you can probably make a statement trade, but you need another team to do it with. You really just don't see it.

Being overconfident in the 'bringing the band back' concept is partially what (frank)ed us. But you also need to remember that virtually exact same roster got within a point and was high flying and tons of fun.

Massive roster regression as a whole, bad coaching, non existent power play, and a GM who didn't have the stones or ability to do enough to make this team better as a whole and accepted what was the year prior, ultimate mediocrity.

The GM fumbled, the coach was terrible, the players weren't that good.

Does hiring Craig Berube after Christmas turn that team around? I dunno, maybe.

I get it, but there were a lot of warning sings heading into last summer. Apparently even bigger warning signs starting in camp.

I don't have any stats on it, but I'm guessing a coaching change usually give the team a spark. Maybe it doesn't matter in the end, but with all the stories out now, don't you have to try?

That’s interesting, the buyout seems really painful.

Do they instantly use the $ to sign someone else?

I just see more of the same, your post gives me some hope they really want to change their approach.

- Boss34

I know it seems like it should be, but if you stack it up next to a 50% retain, it's really not that bad. Even has some advantages.

When you take a step back, and look at the real $, it starts to make a lot more sense.

The idea that it's a lot better to wait a year is not entirely accurate either. There's advantages to doing it this year.

The thing is, even if it didn't give them a spark, they fired him anyways.

They waited too long to make a decision they were gonna make anyways.

Does it change at all if you view Benson and Greenway as primarily LW's?

and then you're past the point of no return. you're left with a coaching change at this point, and then do you decide, are we even good enough to hire an outside interim coach? do we want matt (frank)ing ellis coaching this team?

they'd be forced into picking up Evason or Berube. And you're getting them only if you give them a real contract.

So if you don't want that kind of commitment without seeing the field in May, and you're really not that good anyway... like what do you do.

It's an indictment on every facet of the org, the way last year went. They didn't have an assistant coach they trusted the reigns to, example A, giving a game to their AHL coach instead of any of the assistants.

Advantages if they find a way to fill the offensive output. I don't see the Advantage this year if you don't.

it's still 3 spots in the middle 6 either way

2 if you think savoie is ready, and he should be

keeping skinner means you need 1 really good middle 6 guy

Perhaps they're interchangable but, point remains, there's a lot of open position for a win now team to be filled regardless.

Or Kulich/Rosen

Greenway is better than people give him credit for.

If you keep Skinner, you need a better 4th line.
