He's more of a defensive guy who has a good 1st pass.
His value is depressed, recently projected worth a middling draft pick, and an RFA. It is Tampa who convinces players to take less than their market value...so I wouldn't expect him to get a ton on his next deal.
With Sergachev and Heddy, getting a guy to play a safer game should be desireable. His QO is $2.6m. I don't think it goes crazy high in Tampa...$3.5m+

Their benefit is getting a guy who can play at a cost effective range and not poop the bed.
Space is important in their effort to re-sign Stamkos and fill out the roster.

If if doesn't work, OK.

He is underappreciated, kind of. He is a fine 4-5 defenseman when paired with the right person. The problem is the next contract - most seem to believe he is in line to get 4 per year.

I get what you are saying, but the only way it happens is if he forces their hand like Eichel did. The offer isn't bad at all, it would just take more than that even if they were willing to trade in the division. And this isn't an Eichel situation where the suitors are limited. They would EASILY get 10 quality offers.
