My prediction: Things are fully run back next year as the Leafs don't REALLY have many viable options to do otherwise. I've been saying all season how next year is going to be a bit of a step back until JT's contract is up, but there is enough cap coming off the books that maybe Tre can do some cooking. Hopefully, JT signs a team friendly contract to retire a Leaf. Marner is likely re-signing. How much? Who knows. I don't seem him taking a discount. I don't see him signing the same contract at WN. He's a greedy little $hit, that wants to stay a Leaf but isn't willing to leave a cent on the table to do so.

Hopefully, the little $hit surprises us all.

Look at summer signing history ....99% of the heavy lifting is done July 1 ..maybe slides into day 2. Especially this year when teams have loads of loot to spend.

I agree though - if MM is open to a move, and if there are teams interested in paying the price - they probably are well down that road to knowing if it might work. That was my original point. This Marner poop should be well down the pipe and practically to the sphincter in the next week or two and if it's not I think most will put the story to bed and get on with demonizing him.

Oh he’ll be hated by a lot of people until he resigns and even then there is a significant group of Toronto fans who will never accept him on the team again. Toronto is Toronto.

Hell, a deal might even be done but it’s not getting completed til the bonus is paid. The leafs may have a d man or goalie they like that will be obtained via trade and not a UFA signing.

Either way, until he is extended this isn’t going away. Afterwards it will just be a bunch of fans female doging about it lol

since JT wont be a 35+ contract, just sign him for 2 mil a season until hes 40. front load it

I think Mitch is not traded either. Just too many roadbocks to work around.
GMs also dont want to look like a fool by trading away agood player and then they go on to win a cup like matthew tkachuk ..oh wait

I'd be shocked if it's that low, but that'd be awesome. With his CRA issues though, I don't think he's going to leave THAT much on the table.

Well that's a different story. I only said that the "Marner trade buzz" should be dried up in 2 weeks b/c he'll either be traded or have refused to waive.

The extension vs. let him play out the year noise will continue but at least for the purposes of thinking about next years roster we can move on.

And again, if he won't waive and he won't sign at the teams number in July then I do not negotiate until after next years playoffs.

In hindsight, if they had done that with Willie, is he getting more than 11.5x8 from the Leafs? Is he waiting to see if someone gives him 13x7 on July 1?

Unlike Marner Nylander has the courage necessary for Toronto. He doesn’t get butt hurt like Mitch does.

A NTC isn’t typically used either to stay on a team that doesn’t want you, unless you’re Sundin hence why the leaf fanbase thinks it will happen again.

I think you're right. I think they'd like a big move but realistically it's up to MM and depends on what's offered. Assuming it doesn't work out then they've still got some good money to spend this summer. They can probably add 3 good pieces in that $5M range. Nab a pair of top4 blueliners that get you a nice top4 going forward. Next summer fix the goaltending and middle 6.

All JT would have to do is play out this season and wait til Sept 20th to get his 35+ one. It’s more than possible.

All marner needs to do is have a good playoff run, then he'll be back in the whiners, i mean some fans good books.
😀
This is Toronto afterall.
They'll move on to someone new after that.

Well, we dont know that willie doesnt get "butt hurt", we only "seem" to know that he doesn't let it affect what he says to the media, most times.

And i don't believe "courage" has anything to do with it, but i know what you mean.

What's next after Florida ends this tonight ...buyouts, draft, trade rumours start this week.

Who's getting bought out? Could be some teams desperate enough to buy out some big $ deals. Jack Campbell? Korpisalo? ...yuck.

Vegas and Isles might need to clear some cap space. Karlsson or Pageau might be cheap buys and good middle six centre options if they'd retain some $$.

Draft - I think I like the sounds of the Solberg kid.

Always take it with a grain of salt but incarnatedbob said Leafs and Isles talked big trade. Isles would have to give up major young piece.

Sign him for one year at a decent price then and carry it over. If he truly doesn’t want to leave Toronto it gives the leafs the deal striking strength, not JT.

You just have anxiety from hearing insiders saying Leafs are trying to sign Bertuzzi.

Not at all, I'm hopeful they can convince him that less money makes you richer and more money makes you poorer. He can be convinced of really stupid poop.
