Last wedding I went to was Lutheran or some poop. And I mean it was a hardcore Lutheran wedding. The sermon was all about how marriage is a cross to bear and the woman must obey and the man must provide. The dance floor at the reception was like a dead dog's Richard in winter under a sheet of snow.

When I was living with a gf and our lives became dominated by weddings and we only existed as grist for the wedding-industrial complex, we used to joke about sending out invitations to a shower for adopting our cat or for going on the same phone plan, etc. Like, we're banging too, can we socially obligate people to sacrifice their summer to our relationship?

I'm sure there's still cultural differences but in my world the past 10+ years of weddings all seems to include a bach party and a wedding. Bach party with close friends and fam ...all good. Wedding is cash and I get my money back in food and drink and entertainment.

I actually feel for brides/grooms. You do a modest restaurant wedding with minimal extras and they're paying $250 per person. Then you get a bunch of guests show up and write a cheque for $100 for husband and wife .....(frank) that. What would you spend on a nice dinner out with the wife followed by a night of drinking and entertainment? $400-$500 easy ....

I could make a million dollars starting up THE ANGRY OLD MAN WEDDING PLANNING COMPANY.

I could save everyone 50% of their wedding costs.

Those stupid gifts that everyone gets at the table? Bomboniere? Nope. Nobody has ever received a good one ever, and nobody has ever kept one past 2 months. They go straight to the trash.

Floral centre pieces? Frank right off. Nobody cares. Don't spend $150 per table. If you have to have flowers, order 14 FTD Pick Me Up Bouquets and have them delivered to the restaurant/country club/hall - you'll still be saving $100 a table.

Don't rent an antique car or a horse and carriage to be driven to the wedding.

Don't hire a videographer. You'll never watch the video, ever. Photographer is fine.

I swear, Lawsie, all you need to do is get me a little drunk, and I can go on an epic rant about the military wedding complex, which will scare the prospective brides and grooms into spending their money sensibly.
