For instance. Nikita Kucherov just signed an extension worth $9.5 million, and if you compare that to John Tavares $11 million/year contract it looks like Kucherov took less. But if you look at his net salary it is virtually the same as Tavares in Toronto.
Tavares makes $11 million in Toronto and his net salary is $5.145 million, while Kucherov’s $9.5 million salary in Tampa Bay nets him $5.781 million. Kucherov still has a higher net salary playing in Tampa Bay, even though Tavares gets paid $1.5 million more in Toronto.

Yeah ... you'd need a lot of MBA's to figure all this stuff out to make it fair.
And I'm sure it wouldn't be perfect in every way. |

I suspect player's agents have a lot to do with some of these cases, it's all about the money (ie. big market sponsorship deals, etc) a player (and agent) can make.
GMs need to collectively put their foot down for the benefit of their respective market or they might see their ticket revenues go down.
Kinda reminds me when the Expos became a de facto development team for the Yankees and Red Sox's of the world ... when Montreal fans realized this, the attendance fell drastically and the team folded.
Why support a team that has no chance of ever winning? - Garfield512
I think that is part of it.
Also, if you are drafted by a team that is poop at development and craps on young players and/or has a coach like Torts or front office that sucks - I can see the want to be elsewhere.

To make it easier, they should just trade for all the top 5 picks and that that just makes a whole bunch of people right.
After #1 is is kinda crazy. Cannot remember such a difference of opinions on players. |

yeah, I've stopped paying attention to all the different lists and player analysis a while ago, this year's draft is kind of all over the place... it makes things very interesting but I just want to get on with it, really curious to see how it will all pan out for the habs.

I hope it leads to a lot of trades and movement... making it exciting, rather than waiting 10-15 minutes between picks for nothing to happen.

So maybe it's the weed talking, but I was thinking about the tax implications on team salaries.
Going by net salaries might work or give higher taxed teams a higher salary cap.
OR
What if all players were employees of NHL Inc which was incorporated in FLA let's say and all players were subcontracted to all the teams but all players would be paid by NHL Inc thereby same tax rate for everyone.
Maybe I should not have posted right after. |

I'm mostly curious if HuGo will be able to make any trades this week prior or at the draft. We have a lot of players and prospects ... can't fit them all in the roster.
This will give us a better idea of the type of team they want in the end ... so far it's been about amassing assets, now they'll probably try to refine what they want as an end product. |

maybe, but perhaps during and after the draft they'll have a better idea of the possibilities, so much depends on the 4 teams that are at the table before their turn, with Celibrini being the only real certainty.
