Calgary is taking a bit of a gamble on the protected 1st. - Feds91Stammer
If the trade was made last March, chances were pretty darn good Jersey werent picking 10th. Markstrom was playing unreal & kept us close to the wildcard & that precipitated our Owner nixing the trade. Bahl was a 5D on Jersey but will probably by a 4 on our rebuilding D. Probably means Flames will be drafting a forward with #9.
We have cap space coming out our ying yangs & we have 2 1st in each of the next 3 years. The top 10 2025 protected pick is probably a formality as I expect Jersey to have better goaltending & no where near the wild injuries they endured last year.
Just hope they finish 21st & Flames get the 11th over all pick next year.

Was PLD or Kuemper on the roomer chart? Seems to have been a surprise. If the Caps wanted a center this bad they could have just gone for Marchessault, Teravainen, Reinhart, etc... - Cooleus
I agree. It’s frickin ludicrous any team would trade for PLD. Washington screwed themselves |

I wonder why Flyersbuzz doesn't have anything on the rumored Chychrun + 7th for Konecny + 12th swap? |

did anyone have this out there? - hello it's me 2050
The Athletic threw it out there on 6/12 and apparently Jeff Marek some time in May:
https://www.nytimes.com/a...-goalie-trade-free-agent/
Darcy Kuemper
The 34-year-old Kuemper might be similar to the Kings’ acquisition of Talbot last season as a stop-gap — except that Kuemper isn’t a free agent and is infinitely more expensive. He’s got three years left on a deal he signed with Washington and has a $5.25 million cap hit. Why would the Kings be remotely interested? Well, what if it meant getting out of the Dubois contract before his no-movement clause kicks in July 1?
A deal with the Capitals is something Sportnet’s Jeff Marek mused over last month, given Washington’s need for a top-six center. A trade would give the Kings more flexibility to bring in a better fit at center, or the wing if Byfield got moved to the middle. Kuemper had a bad year and lost his job to Charlie Lindgren, but the Kings have rehabilitated struggling goalies before. And Rob Blake knows Kuemper from his first season as GM. Kuemper was great in his short L.A. run, but that was six years ago. |

It's worth a gamble by the Caps. They dump Kuemper and add PLD, for a net increase of just $3.25M to the cap. They need top 6 forwards. Backstrom is gone. Kuznetsov is gone. Pacioretty is walking. PLD is still just 25 and if he tops out at a 50-60 point guy, that isn't worth the cap hit, but is still a competent two-way forward. The Caps are really just hanging around for Ovie to try and break the record. Once Ovie is done its a full rebuild so they aren't going to care about the last few years of PLDs deal. |

I said it before, but so they could bury public access to see how much they're paying Tom Wilson |

He is? That's not what I saw in LA, but didn't watch him as much before that.

WSH is just interested in Ovi breaking the goals scored record before rebuilding. Dubois helps that so while Dubois might be a huge liability he's still better than any center on WSH and won't interfere with rebuilding. |

The PLD trade is so absurd it gives me hope the Pens can move Graves. We all know Reilly Smith is on his way out in a hockey trade but getting Graves off the books too would be amazing. Utah needs D and some salary. After today there’s a > 0% chance. |

I agree Kevin. Markstrom wanted out after being d!cked around last year. Plus Markstrom was found money, didn’t cost a cent to sign him. We can only hope he follows his pattern of great year bad year. 9 days to the draft! |

For sure. Sometimes these project players can turn out. If you have a friend in the team that they like playing with, maybe a coach or just the location…..you never know the back story. But if you can find a way to motivate PLD, and guys like that, it can be a real win. |

Trading an old guy with a bad contract for a young guy with a bad contract? Seems pretty simple. |

Is there any chance of PLD getting flipped again by washington for something else? |

I believe WSH has 10 days to make that flip before trade restrictions kick in so they better have something cooking now. |

I suppose it is possible given Dubois' history of being at least supposedly demanding on his market conditions. Though WSH is generally a well received market and the environment to play as the 1C on a playoff team should be more favorable than almost anywhere else. |

What happens if the pick is in the top 10? There must be some conditions right? |
