Seen a mock trade today.....Mitch Marner for Rasmus Andersson and Nazem Kadri.
Dollars are a bit of a savings but could and would he sign a 3 year deal possibly? Would he even come here would the Flames do it? Thoughts? - stoops2u
Hahaha what a horrible trade for us. Why would Marner want to extend here unless we paid him something outrageous like $15mill per. Why make the Leafs problem our problem? We can do way better & we just went down the nightmare of a pending UFA with a NMC & how hard it was to trade them & get any kind of value.
Hard pass. |

It's not an awful trade for the Flames at all, as long as he's not only extending for three years. The Flames don't have any elite players on the team or in the system. 15 million a year for eight years for Marner isn't a terrible deal. He's younger than both Kadri and Andersson. Good chance you get nine good years from him. Gives the Flames no centres or defence for this season, so they're probably awful. But who cares? They won't be good while Kadri and Andersson are still useful. Get the draft right for the next couple of seasons and the Flames would be in a really good spot with Marner.
Not likely to happen though with his NMC unless all he really cares about is being top dawg and having bags of cash.

The Senators announced Monday that they had acquired goaltender Linus Ullmark from the Boston Bruins. In exchange, Boston will receive goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, centre Mark Kastelic and the 25th overall pick in Friday's NHL Draft.
Ouch..... maybe Calgary should have went to Ottawa |

I would like to get rid of Kadri. If we took Marner and flipped him I would
Br interested. Why would we want an offense only player that is soft As (frank) and disappears when things don’t go his way? We already have one of those signed to the worst contract in the league. |

Markstrom had a no trade and wanted to go to Jersey. Not much else you can do. |

Have you ever seen him play or are you just going off of the over reactionary sky is falling Leafs' fans and media?
He's not offense only. He's one of the better defensive players who puts up more than a point per game in the league. He's also continued to put up points in the playoffs and has more playoff points than any other Leaf while he's been there. Sure, he's a little soft, but that doesn't matter if you build your team properly.
If the Flames could build around him, get a high-end d-man in the draft, and Wolf lives up to his potential, it's a lot easier to see a path to being a competitive team again. |

The Flames got a better younger player from the Devils, potentially a better pick, and didn't have to take back Korpisalo. How is that an ouch? If anything, it makes it more clear that Conroy wasn't going to do much better than he did. |

I have seen him play. Not sure how after watching Tkachuk and Bennett hoist the cup you want to sign JG 2.0 for 15 millions for a close to a decade. It would be a great way to stay mid.
Are you Murray Edward’s?

I agree, Flames did well in the Markstrom trade. Boston got their pick back and an expensive backup, that may or may not rebound. |

So you really haven't seen him play much if you're comparing him to Johnny. What do Tkachuk and Bennett have to do with anything? Are they available? They also didn't do much in the finals. If the Flames can trade Andersson and Kadri for Tkachuk, they should do that.
Perfect players aren't going to be available, but it's going to be almost impossible for them to bring in someone better than Marner. To be fair, it's also basically impossible for them to bring in Marner as well.
The Flames haven't had a GM do more damage to the team than Sutter's tenure, mostly because he didn't want any soft players. |

Yes I have seen him play. He is a good hockey player. He lacks heart and has the tendency to disappear when things get tough. Hence the JG 2.0.
What do Bennett and Tkachuk have to do with it? We should be trying to fill the team with players who will do anything to win.

Not understanding your posts. But on what planet do you think Marner would even extend with a ground zero rebuilding team like the Flames & then if by any fluke he agreed to a trade here just to get out of Toronto, not sure why, then decides he will just go to the Market next July 1st & walks we are saying WTF??? Why would any GM put themselves in that position? Even if Marner agreed to a 3 year deal & Conroy agreed to pay $13.0 mill, why would we do that??? We need to build properly. Flames trading for Marner is so unrealistic & flawed its hardly even worth discussing quite frankly.

If Conroy can learn anyhting it is to poach players from teams that have had a underperforming rebuild.
There were five former players from Buffalo and three from Calgary on the Panthers.
Conroy should be on the phone with Ottawa, Columbus, and Utah. |
