I actually agree with MacPatty that Laine should be the Pens no. 1 target this offseason. Having an actual threatening RH shot on the PP is going to open up a lot more for that PP, we can talk all day about how Rakell or Rust should be able to do it, but they just can't and history shows that. They should really be trying to move smith, and acquire Laine.
If they can move Smith's 5m, Acquire Laine's 8.7m, and sign POJ for under 2m, they would definitely have some money left over for the middle of the roster.
Duclair, Foegle, Domi, Lindholm, etc. could possibly be options.
And then use the money afterwards for the bargain bin depth options.
The D is pretty much already locked unless they trade Graves but they should head into the season with:
Petts-EK
POJ-Letang
Graves-St. Ivany/Ludvig/whoever
whoever
If they can commit to the guys you mentioned fighting for spots, that would at least let them build a younger/hungrier bottom 6 I'd hope.
Duclair-Sid-Rust
Bunting-Geno-Rakell
DOC-Eller-Laine
isn't the worst top 9
Do you guys ever listen to the locked on Pens podcast? They are so gung ho on a 3C, 2LD. - j.boyd919
I agree on Laine. Not a guy I'd normally like but he fills a need and would be worth the gamble while his value is down. I'd swap Laine and Rackell though at least to start.
For the second forward I'd echo MickV and say get someone who can play C in a pinch. I'd rather not go with Eller or DOC at 2C if we have an injury to Sid or Malkin. At that point the season would be shot. Or even just have the option to move Malkin to wing.
Everywhere else we're on a similar page. I wouldn't mind an upgrade at 2LD, but I believe in POJ enough to be adequate.
We should really be able to get a 4C between Poulin, Ponomarev, and Gruden. Bump Accairi to wing if he's still here and let him and Nieto battle it out with all the kids for the fourth line. Not like any of them besides Yager have top 6 potential. |

TIFWIW... Madden says he's been told the Pens are going to try to trade Jarry. Also said Sully/management weren't happy that Jarry was basically indifferent to Ned getting the starts late in the season. |

Just not sure what the plan is if Jarry is gone. Cant imagine Blomqvist gets an immediate promotion to the NHL and Ned starts 60+ games.

Agreed. So many times when he carries the puck at full speed I wish it was the Scott Steven’s era. |

PPs are 2-1 for the Cats... Get this rigged sh!t outta here hahaha. Any time people don't like how a game or series is going now they say it's f'n rigged. Oilers fans saying it was rigged when the Cats were up 3-0. Every single fn series of these playoffs fans of the losing team saying it's rigged. It's so common now it's vanilla commentary. |

Oilers have just been dominating. Panthers can't do poop on the forecheck, have no rush chances and they can't contain anything off the Oiler's rush.

A flyer on Laurent Broissant as a starter intrigues me, or a longshot on Kaapo Kahkonen might be bargain bin hunting opportunity.

Yeah.. Cats had a good 2nd period though. That goal was huge for them. If they score on this PP coming up its major momentum. Might hoist tonight. |

All that matters now is Mcdavid in a stretcher. Send a message to the league. |

Lifted this from Yohe's piece yesterday. Man... I'd love an upgrade at 3C. Push Eller to 4C. That 4th line got crushed most nights. Not sure what's to love about Acciari at 4C.
• Dubas wasn’t particularly thrilled with many facets of the Penguins’ performance this season. But I would expect him to work particularly hard on the Penguins’ depth at forward, especially at left and right wing. Dubas likes his centers and foresees Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Lars Eller and Noel Acciari lining up down the middle. He loves Acciari. |

Yeah... Crazy series. Never expected this. Unless FLA gets some fluky goals on Monday, I think Edmonton takes it. |

It’s pretty crazy that he can hate one players greatness so much that even in a game where he has had almost zero impact that he still roots for him to get injured. |

Maybe stretcher was a bit much. He doesn’t really ooze much greatness, just fast and extremely skilled. I don’t even hate him, I kinda like his old school all business, low emotion style. |

I think doc eller pulj would be an excellent 4th line. Quick and good forecheck. Acciari should not be a centre.
Edmonton in 7 sadly. Florida is gassed or something, they have nothing left and pittsburghs pp. bad combo.
