Please, regale us with more stories about your dad's NHL. Boy, it's a shame that these lads today wear helmets. Do you miss the days where they would have a heater on the bench between shifts?

Would Skinner waive to go to Utah? They have a wack of cap and want to put a much better product on the ice for season one. Here is my thought:
To Utah Skinner and any one of the following Greenway, Krebs, Rosen, or a 24'/2nd.
To Buffalo Shea Weber and his 7.85M cap.

Then Flip Weber.
To Tampa Bay Weber, Joker and Greenway or Kerbs.
To Buffalo Cernak and Jeannot.
Win for everybody.

I'm all for this...well, until I understand what the return would be.
Any thoughts?

I think that makes a ton of sense. I think if you make that move and bring back Bryson as 7D, you're all set on D. I know people were down on Clifton - I actually thought he got better as the year went along. The whole year was such a train wreck - its so hard to know what to put stock in, good or bad.

I think that Skinner's issue with not waving might be as simple as him being a free agent AND getting 2/3 of his salary if he is bought out. He might actually lose money if he is traded.

They tried to shoehorn Cliffy hockey into a top-4 role which was a mistake but that was the bed they made. He'll likely be in a bottom-pairing role this year where he'll be overpaid but hopefully successful

Hopefully lindy has something to say about that - and hopefully they bring in at least some marginal competition to push him

So you think expansion has ruined the game? I don't think that the teams are watered down at all. In fact, I think the proof is in the pudding: we no longer see vets who are not stars playing into their late 30s. If there was a talent shortage, I think we would be seeing that. Instead, it is the opposite: it is very much a young man's game. Does that change the game? Sure, of course, and not always for the better. But I don't think the game is in very good shape.

Push him to do what though, he was a bad signing. A few on here were wondering if he could add the needed minutes to stay in the Top 4, obviously he couldn't. Hard for Dman to add minutes to there game, especially Physical D

I think Lindy can get his game right playing sheltered minutes on the 3rd pair. He's overpaid but there's nothing the Sabres can do about that now. Lindy needs to make the most of it

Skinner makes more money being bought out and gets a larger field of teams to choose from with a lower salary demand

too bad we have to wait until thursday morning to see what theyve come up with

I see all these stats posted all over the internet. It must be so damn easy to be a GM these days.

How are there still sooo many bad ones.

right - this is why you don't give people on the edge of 30 long-term contracts. The Penguins said that and offered up a "hold my beer".

seeing the good players is easy. identifying the fits and attracting the talent you actually want, and also paying teams for that talent is the hard part.

But to the original point, it seems easy to avoid the stupid mistakes. How many times do we see a signing or trade and know instantly that it was a giant mistake? It happens all of the time.
