Just to be clear - it's not a rumor. Adams himself confirmed they have offered Girgensons a contract. It's up to Zemgus now

"He hasn’t made a decision that I know of. I spoke to his agent on Friday to let them know that we have a lot of respect for him and what he’s done in his career. When you talk about guys who compete and bring consistent effort every night and you’re looking to fill that out with physicality in the bottom of your lineup, he checks a lot of boxes. For me, if Zemgus were an unrestricted free agent on another team, he’d be the type of guy you’d want to acquire. I understand where guys are at in their career. Ultimately, it’s his decision, so we’ll see how it shakes out."

Think he's very smart, I just think think he is good at every aspect of being a GM. Process should have been started 2 years ago.

No decent player is coming to buffalo 2 years ago after the Eichel poop show trades and unloading.

“Hey player Xxxx. You are going to play with 18,19, and 20year olds and play as the youngest team in the league. We have no clue if they will be good or bad”

I love when adams does an interview and pulls out the "it's tough because no one wants to play for this poopty team I built" card

So hear me out on this one. It is not meant to be a defense of Adams.

The word "move" gets tossed around a lot, but what does it mean? Adams is in charge of crafting a roster. He picks the players. So take goaltending for example - he has to pick two. Last offseason, he decided to stick with Ullmark. Most here were ready to get rid of Ullmark, and it turns out that he was right. Same with several other players on the roster over the last 2-3 years. Were they "moves". Well, no, but that's the point. It isn't about how many transactions he makes, it is about the players he picks.

The point was made earlier that this time of year every people lose their chili with every move that some other crappy team made. Its almost as if the making of the transaction automatically made them better. And maybe it did. Or maybe it turned into the Korpisolo disaster - remember how many people here were mad we didn't get him?

So the the point is that you can't just go by how many moves a team makes. Its about the roster that is built, regardless of how many moves it took to get there.

18 months ago this team was poised to make the playoffs for the first time in 11 years and adams did nothing

last summer he had all kinds of money and assets and literally wasted them on overpaying girgens, okposo, jost, johnson and claiming robinson and signing clifton (only meh move was clifton and the others stunk)

you have money, and assets and that was the best you brought in esp after knowing you lost quinn for most of the year

the guy has been clueless and only reason he has a job is because he is a hell of a yes man

I mean he got hall and thought they were a cup contender and instead we got the first overall pick

at least tim murray tried, made the moves 2 years early

this guy should have been making moves 18 months ago and instead sits on his hands

we wasted the years with eichel, reinhart, ror etc

and now we are wasting years of dahlin, tage, tuch etc

To be fair, there was context there. He was asked about the difference between this offseason and last offseason, and he said last offseason his phone was ringing with players wanting to come here (side note: apparently people do want to play with 20 year olds, if the team is exciting). And at the trade deadline, it wasn't like that. It wasn't an excuse, it was just an honest statement about where we were and where we are.

If he doesn't get it done, there are no excuses. But this "nobody wants to play here " garbage goes away with winning, just as it did 2 years ago.

Well, yes - he was too passive. We can all agree on that. My point was the general fixation on "any moves" as compared to the "right moves". Sometimes the right move isn't a trade.

Either way... I wish we could just put all of that to bed. I'll never comprehend the desire to come her posting the same stuff, all day long. This is going to be a fascinating week and there should be plenty to talk about.

Just because they got better doesn't mean it was a good trade. I'm not discounting the impact of good goaltending, but Florida just won game 7 without him. The issue with the trade is the high price they paid, there's no question Ullmark is a decent goalie. He just simply wasn't worth that much. Swap that 1st for a 2nd and you're fine. Giving up such a high pick for a 1 year rental is ludicrous. I expect an extension to come shortly...wonder what that number will be...won't be $5m, that's for sure.

You do realize they got rid of this contract as part of the deal, right?

The amount of times Adams has self owned is just impeccable.
My favorites.

“It’s hard because players have NTC and don’t want to waive to come here”

Not sure what you are questioning. The guy admitted that now isn't good, and simply said that their image was better a year ago. The two are not mutually exclusive: they could have had a lot of interest in people coming here, and he clearly picked some of the wrong players. The guy completely botched 5ish roster spots by being loyal to these guys. It was a giant, giant mistake.
