does the 2 russians he drafted in the 2nd round look good?
does the goalie he drafted in the 2nd round look good

does any of these prospects look to be the next briere, pommer, vanek etc?

I doubt we even have the next derek plante let alone yuri khmylev

- homiedclown

The vast majority of the second rounders don't ever become anything. I know you know that. The best GM is going to hit on some and miss on some. The good teams like Tampa hit on some guys in that round, not unlike what we have with Peterka.

With all due respect, your memory seems to be a little short. Briere was a failed prospect when we got him. Pommer was on waivers after several years in Roch. Vanek was a top 4 draft pick - hardly the same thing.

He filled the pipeline with good assets. In that sense, he has drafted well. That's as much as we can say about his drafts.

we are drafting 11th this year instead of 13th

that's progress, right?

Quinn is a huge ?
- Buff36

Denis Hamel looked to be a middle 6 fixture in 2000-01 and then injuries hit and he was never the same

that's my fear with quinn

I forgot losing means progress to some Sabres fans.

You equated the success of the minor league team with our ability to draft. I don't even know what to say to that.

then trade some for players that can help us

which is my point

only so many roster players in the nhl and we are at the point where we are so loaded with blah prospects that we are holding some back in rochester by forcing them to play a bottom 6 role they are not use to playing, like calling up rosen or kulich and expecting them to play a 4th line role in the nhl

pretty sure 2 second round picks can get you a decent return in a trade

right now Topias Leinonen and Aleksandr Kisakov are worthless

Those drafted are on the losing ahl team, difficult to make the connection, while simultaneously saying those players are good assets.

The AHL team performed worse when more prospects were added.

I really like what I've seen from Quinn, but he is going to be 23 before opening night. Big year for him.

One constant from KA is slow development, which is a concerning constant.

I agree with all of that. But we were specifically talking about drafting, not his overall GM abilities. They have a ton of good prospects, and they made mistakes with them last year.

My bigger concern with Adams and staff is that they can't judge pro talent. Maybe they can, I don't know. Can they find another Briere from someone else's organization?

Think you have your answer on Pro Talent with who they brought in or some they have resigned

Well, no, it actually got much, much better when Levi and Johnson went down. Much, much, much better. They went from being a fringe playoff team to being a top team.

The teams that do well in the playoffs usually have the best AHL vets. So in that sense, I don't think i need to judge our drafts based on how well Linus Weissbach and a bunch of other future bartenders played. That's like judging your NFL team based on the preseason.

164 games in 4 seasons

not helping the team on the shelf year after year

- homiedclown

Holtz, Rossi, Perfetti all have the same numbers. The other players who were thought to be had with that pick... Quinn has the slight edge in ppg between the 4.

Right. Where is our version of a Devon Toews trade or finding a Forsling off waivers?

Maybe? Again, we are about to find out. I am hoping that he learned not to be overly-loyal to vets and it was nothing more than that. But yeah, that interview he gave with GR at the trader deadline (re-signing Girgs) made me as mad as many others on this board.

I am over this slow play formula

there is a good chance that Weissbach would have done better with the big club than one of olofsson, jost, robinson, girgens or okposo last season though

So what you are saying is prospects often times don’t really amount to what we thought they would be and it could be years if they even do?

Right now... it's not a hit.

He's about 25th in that draft class in games played, and has been injured constantly.

I love what he can be as a player
