Does the blogger get paid twice for this?

Once for the oilers blog and once for us keeping the hits coming despite nothing relevant on the sabres for months now

- ieetbred

for 2 blogs a month????

my guess is this is going towards community service

Prop A
Skinner gets bought out of his 22M remaining contract and receives 14.67M, so he loses a total of 7.33M, or about 2.44M per year. To make the numbers easy let's just assume celery=cap. So if he signs any deal for over 2.44M (for 3 years), he gets his full celery.

He re-signs a new deal maybe 3 years, 5M per.

Prop B
Skinner gets traded.

It's more economical for him/his agent if he gets bought out. It's almost a sure thing vs waiving for a trade.

- TheSabresTaco

buying him out makes no sense for this fall unless they need the cap space for this fall

IMO the better option is hoping he gets 30 goals this season and traded with a bit retained next summer

Do you think the list of players who want to be in Buffalo has grown, shrunk or remained the same under Adams?

If Zayne Parekh is on the board when pick 7 or 8 comes around, do you try to move up?

Gotta think if going run and gun, he would be the perfect 4th d man to go with dahlin, power and byram

I think they may have gone from 32nd on the list for players to 30th on the list

failed with Cat and Chiq, both will bring in higher returns than Benson/Savoie.
- washedup20

For Cat, at the end of the day, they lost Kevin Korchinski, some picks and gained 25OA this year. This one, Ottawa takes a big L. High probability 25 turns into a turd burger.

For Chiq they lost Daniil But and 2 2nds. TBD here.

Not justifying their moves, just a picture of what moved to each team.

ive agreed with this sentiment. unless the feelings are mutual, you keep him unless you intend on replacing him with a more productive player.

if your using the money for an extended ehlers, I am fine with that

but if it's to give girgens, bryson and jost healthy raises, F that

I wonder if Chicago would entertain a Skinner trade. They need a top 6 winger and have a ton of cap for the next few years.
- TheSabresTaco

If Adams didn’t publicly talk about buying him out on a front-page nhl.com interview last week, maybe.

Why not just have him for free and $6m cheaper?

Saving 7.5m real $ this year might be all the sense it needs to make.

I still think Tij Iginla or Carter Yakemchuk is the pick for Buffalo.

They haven't even played a game under Lindy yet, and no moves have been made...

like any free agent, how do you guarantee the signing? His value vs cost of acquisition is quite a gap in favor of the acquiring team.

The BO benefits Skinner greatly and he can give Adams the finger to any proposed destination he wants.

all he needs to do is average more than 2.44M/year for the next three years. I don't suspect that will be hard for him.

it was.

So I suppose we swap Savoie for Korchinski and Benson for But.

Hindsight it's a huge L.

Without hindsight, it's bad asset management not knowing if he'd stay.

Just be glad these last 3 years don't have big singing bonuses, I guess. In every other way, the structure of this deal hurts.

to the team's credit, we have yet to see a Drury/Briere situation in Pegula's tenure. Look at how many players teams like Ottawa didn't feel like paying.

Probably the closest thing would be Reinhart but that was bungled by the GM's and not an ownership mandate.

Utah is an upgrade from Arizona....I think this debate is between:

Columbus
Edmonton
Buffalo

Sure. It's not nearly as bad as the Bill Guerin situation but they're not pulling this trigger without some long discussions about that third year.
