You're like a straw man argument on steroids, every day. You are arguing against arguments that nobody is making. Nobody said you can't make trades, or even shouldn't make trades. All that was said was that the core of most teams starts with drafting. It doesn't mean that you can't trade those players, and it doesn't mean that is the only way to build. I want to say that I think you know this, but I am not so sure.....

Edmonton was a bounce away from winning it themselves and their team 80% came via the draft.

Free agent F Jak Vaarwerk, who will be a sophomore at Lowell in '24-25, going to Buffalo Sabres development camp

He's from Clarence, NY, not far from Buffalo

How were the Sabres two best forwards acquired again?

They drafted Thompson and Tuch, right?

- ImThatGuy

They traded better players for them

A 3-year deal could move Girgensons into 3rd place all time for games played as a Sabre with 934. Currently Ramsey owns that spot with 911GP

Because most of the positives of his tenure will be felt the next several years.

this was said when darcy was gone

murray was gone

botts was gone

etc

the moral victories are meaningless IMO given the fact that they still show no signs of a team able to compete for a cup

Tage and cozens is a very good start at center for most franchises .

Add a guy like Sam Bennett or max domi and we’re 3 nhl centers deep.

Just slide girgs back to center on the 4th line

Easy peasy

- Boss34

Is it?

I think the biggest regret coming out of this extended rebuild is that they don't have an elite C (or F).

Peterka and Mittelstadt were technically the best players last season.

Both acquired in the draft. One was traded away

- Swedish_Jesus

Your final post will be justifying a Girgs extension.

How many conversations do you think it took to land him at camp. I bet it was so many good conversations

It depends on what version of Tage you think you have. If memory serves me, his defense was actually pretty good last year. If you can get a guy that scores 40 goals and plays respectable D, what more do you want out of a top C? Auston Mathews called him the most underrated player in the league 2 years ago. He may not be a 47 goal scorer, but I still think he is much more than last year (and we saw it at the end of the year).

I think Peterka and Tuch are 35 goal guys. What more do you want?

You want a Tage who is going to be more like a cross between Vanek and Hecht? Boy I wish.

He's realistically a 60-70 point guy. I think he came back down to Earth a little last year. I hope he is a .ppg player but yeah, highly doubtful.
