If we use 14 and a prospect for Ehlers and 43 + skinner for futures the SJ trade makes a ton of sense. We still would have a pick in all rounds 2-7. Now, sign a Tanev type for D and a couple of the aforementioned 3/4 liners and we're good to go. Even if we use the pick at 14 and trade a 2nd to take Skinner it makes sense. If he uses all 9 picks, it makes no sense

I have the offseason checklist at 2 top six forwards, 2 fourth liners, and one defensemen. Given the boatload of picks, prospects, and cap space, that's not even that much to ask for.

Completely agree with your checklist. It's like the Bills and WR. Man we really need a WR. Oh, you're trading Diggs?? Damn now we need 2 WR's. Too bad, you get one and we're going to trade back before we get one.

That's what I figured. Realistically in a trade for an NHL players there is not that much difference in value between 14 and 11. But now he has a second 2nd rounder to maybe make a second trade with.

Of course, most likely he will just make all the picks tomorrow and do nothing.

I think you're under the assumption Skinner is going back to being carried on L1. He isn't. Skinner is probably a 20pt 3rd liner.

Don't get me wrong he has made good trades. The Risto trade was good. The Reinhart and Eichel trades were ...fine, considering he had no choice. The Mittelstadt trade was good.

But can he trade something that's not out the door anyway? Can he trade Rosen + Kulich or maybe Zach Benson for something really good? I guess we will find out.

I am operating under the assumption Skinner is bought out.

If I slot people where they deserve to be slotted on a really good NHL team, that leaves me with:

Peterka Thompson Quinn
Tuch [name here] [name here]
Benson Cozens Kulich/Rosen
Greenway [name here] [name here]

Krebs is not an NHL player on a serious team (4 goals). A serious team has room for one rookie in camp, not 2 or 3. A serious team does not slot Cozens in as 2nd line center after last season.

Ehlers trade and two signings of 2-3mil each fills out most of the spots, but I still need another second line wing.

So far he is very good at trading away players like you mentioned.

He hasn’t shown that he is able to trade for a player and add to the roster.

The best 72 hours will be very telling. If he can’t get a trade done. He should be let go and let our assistant GM or the associate GM or what ever other GM make the moves he can’t

Ehlers for 42 and a top prospect
Sign Tanev
Sign a 3C and a couple of middle6, bottom 6 wingers
There's a lot of different options out there.
