Nice to see ...often these big games end up boring "don't make a mistake" chess matches.
Hopefully they keep driving, pinching and pushing. |

TRADE ALERT: The #Sens have acquired G Linus Ullmark from @NHLBruins in exchange for (Boston’s original) ’24 first-round draft pick (no. 25 overall), C Mark Kastelic and G Joonas Korpisalo. As part of the transaction, the #Sens will retain 25% of Korpisalo’s remaining salary.

So Ullmark is a Sen.
So much for no trades until cup is awarded. Lol
I feel like the Sens gave up A LOT including retaining a million for 4 years on Korpisalo.
I guess they are confident they can sign Ullmark to a new deal before he hits UFA status at the end of next season.
Won’t lie I really hope he walks at the end of the season just to see Spatso lose his poop. 🤣 |

Really doesn't seem like much for me. The late first is fringing on payment to dump Korpisalos poop contract alone. They give up a bottom six forward and get Ulmark back.
They've not given up anything crazy significant, get a legit starter and get out of a brutal contract. |

That's not right MP. Oettinger only gave up RFA years ....he'll be an RFA when his current deal expires. You've got to compare apples to apples ..and the biggest variable is contractual status/leverage.
If you take a pass now that's fine. You avoid the risk of him being poop. But if he has a great year he's got all the leverage next summer. He goes to arbitration and pulls an Ullmark or Samsonov and then walks into UFA. Good (even mediocre) 27 yr old goalies get paid (Ullmark, Jarry, Husso, Peterson, Binnington, etc....). All he has to do to get their is take a 1 yr deal next summer and hit UFA.
If he's good again you're in a bidding war at $5-6M minimum. - The Law
I don't know. The purpose of a show-me deal is to show me.
Right?
Ultimately all I'm saying is that Woll has been very good in very small spurts, but not sustainably so, nor has he remained healthy long enough to know. It's a gamble that I, if I were running the show, wouldn't take until I saw some progress in that area I guess.
I am still a believer that a player needs to earn their money rather than be given it because you're hoping eventually you won't have to pay them more. |

They retained a million for 4 years + will have to pay Ullmark top dollar end of the year to keep him. So whatever they want to pay him tack on 1M.
1st round picks are gold or at least that’s what I keep reading here. 🤷♂️

Yeah, part of the other odds and ends they gave were to dump that contract as well.
All I’m hoping is the leafs figure Ullmark’s skills out quickly lol |

Or he knows going there makes him the true #1 to boost his value going into his UFA year and he’s banking on that being his biggest contract - which kinda makes sense as he’s 30 today and will be 31 before this season starts.
He’s after his big payday contract end of next season. It’ll be interesting to see how much he’s after and who will pay it. |

You people all suck.
Remember when Bill Clinton was sworn into office for the first time?
Remember the Rodney King trial?
Remember when Brandon Lee died?
Remember when Monica Seles was stabbed?
Remember when Prince changed his name to a symbol?
Remember when Jurassic Park was released?
Remember when Kim Campbell became Prime Minister?

Remember when River Phoenix died?
Remember when the European Union was formed?
Remember when NAFTA was signed?
That's all from 1993 - the last time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup.
FFS, let's all put aside our petty differences and cheer for the Canadian team.

Didnt even have to give up their best 1st rounder.
The Leafs didn't retain but had to drop from a similar first into the 2nd round to get rid of less money with Mrazek.
Really doesn't seem like much to me. 🤷 |

Why the need to actively cheer for anyone really? I cheer for the Wings - if not them I’d like to see the Leafs win. Aside from those 2 teams I just like watching hockey. I feel I can keep my Canada Card by just enjoying the game and not really giving a crap who wins. It just won’t move the needle for me at all either way.
The you MUST cheer for the Oilers because they are a Canadian team, ‘93 - blah blah blah. It’s the same as the dummies who won’t cheer for the Oilers because they are Canadian team. Makes no sense.
I like watching the Panthers style of hockey more than Oilers - but also feel happy to watch McJesus be Jesus on ice. I like hockey. |

Or if you are at a hockey tournament.
Moxie's, Milestones and Baton Rouge are overpriced.
East Side Mario's is a caloric nightmare.
I've never been to Crabby Joe's or Chuck's Roadhouse, but I imagine they would be exactly the same as Boston Pizza.
I haven't been to a Jack Astor's in 25 years.
Kelsey's is no better or worse than Boston Pizza. Same with Shoeless Joe's.
St. Louis Bar and Grill is good - especially to watch sports.
And the Keg is perfection.
You really telling me Boston Pizza is the one you want to pick on? - Atomic Wedgie
Best sticky toffee pudding I ever had was at a Jack Astor's.

And I'm not arguing that point ...in fact I probably would've bet against him again as well. All I'm saying is that if they are betting on him then it was always going to take about 3.5M x 3 to get him to do it.
This summer it was either buy a few years while you have some leverage or roll the dice and see how the year plays out. I get what Tree is doing ..not sure I'd have done it but I get it.

Quintuple overtime will end at 2am on a Whorey Fairy goal. Tkachuk loses his poop and punches him in the handshake line. |

Imagine if we had extended MM in 2018 instead of 2019. Leafs (rumoured) didn't want to give him 9M per after his first 2 years. He then went out and crushed it and it cost them.
You gotta make tough decisions on these young guys. Do you get them early when they still have some question marks? Or do you wait until all the evidence is on the table?
Waiting hasn't worked very well for the Leafs. |

I have a bad feeling that next year Ottawa is going to find out that the problem was Korpisalo, but it was their team defense all along. Because Korpisalo is going to be a $3m star in Boston and Ullmark is going to be a $5m (+$1m in Korpisalo's retention) albatross in Ottawa.
Overall it doesn't feel THAT heavy given that it's a late 1st and a bottom-6 player, but I don't actually think Ottawa has gotten better as a result of this trade.

He's an RFA for 2 years yet - if a guy with a horrible injury history wants to go year-by-year, he can take the chance. Offer him 2x2 or 1x1.5.
Here's the thing - I believe in Woll as does, I believe, everyone here. We're concerned about his ability to stay healthy and be an NHL starter, as I would imagine are the Leafs' management team (especially since Treliving called it out in his post season presser). It doesn't change the fact that including NHL playoffs he only has 37 NHL starts. Like this season alone, rookies Dostal, Ersson and Kochetkov all have more NHL starts than Woll does in his career since 2021.
I just don't think he has _earned_ that large payday that puts him in the same realm as Oettinger, Andersen, Allen, Georgiev, even old man Varlamov . . . that said, if you are intent on buying into his UFA years and you really believe in him, and you want to disregard his lack of accomplishments and reward his unproven potential, I just don't see how he's done enough to put himself beyond a guy like Montembeault @ $3.15. Like I don't know what the value of the deal is but if Weekes puts it between $3.5 - $4m . . . - Monkeypunk
Now do all the goalies that had 1-2 good years in their last 2 RFA years or on a prove it contract and earned 5 million plus. I would be interested in seeing that. |
