DeBrusk is a good player. What's stops him from being a 6+ Mil player a year with term is one thing. Inconsistency. It's not just inconsistency on the score sheet, he disappears entirely. This means he has stretches where he contributes nothing in all 3 zones and essentially becomes a black hole.
Lysell I'll believe it if/when it happens. The only he is accomplished so far in the show is getting hurt. I don't think he can handle the speed and physicality.
Merkulov. He needs a real chance like Poitras got to be impactful. That's not going to happen on the 3rd or 4th line. |

I agree. I also just think that we have cheaper options in house that fulfill the same roll as DeBrusk.
Florida just won a cup with a team where everyone knew their role and stuck to it (for the most part). It wasn't a team where they had multiple two way players that just kinda did it all. They had their scorers, their play drivers, the agitators and physical guys, secondary scoring, offensinve and defensive D men and obviously Bob was amazing through the majority of it all.
Lets stop trying to make everyone roughly the same, and get guys that can fill different types of roles. Enough of this "everyone needs to be a perfect two way player". If their 200 foot game is mediocre, but they provide secondary scoring, get them a contract.
Its almost like we needed everyone to have a 200 foot game like Bergy did after he left and in the attempt it stifled the offense. Time to grow and have a new adaptive identity. |

That is a fair point. I expect and overpay for a center to be honest given the amount of teams that will be bidding. Hopefully beyond that Sweeney takes some lessons learned and uses it wisely. |

Sweeney indicated today that he feels comfortable with Essensa working with korpisalo and making him better. Will allow Bussi to compete for the position but I think we all know how it's going to turn out. Korpisalo will be backing up Swayman to start the season.

Before this season I would agree about disappearing but not this season. When the offensive production had dead zones the rest of his play did not suffer. That is the reason I would like him back. But it appears a moot point after Sweeney's presser...JD is going to market and someone will pay him.

Fair enough but the question to me is...Is that contract year DeBrusk or is that the player he's progressed into? Had he played like this for 2 more seasons, I don't think there would be a much of a discussion. |

Look, I understand the reluctance on JD, but my concern is what else is out there? And I don't agree that there is equivalent replacement in house. I worry because Sweeney has a history of not being able to close the deal on true difference makers. I point to the Ullmark deal, pretty much every analyst out there had Chychrun as part of the deal and instead we are saddled with a $3M per backup goalie for the next 3 years and yet another "good" bottom 6 player. I hope I'm proven wrong on this. |

Ageed. The Bruins don’t have an in house Debrusk. His game over the last year and a half has been much more consistent. To me, the consistency issues are a thing of the past. Monty putting him on the Pk gave him more of an identity on the team, so even when he’s not scoring he is still contributing. He’s also our best player in the shoot out and has been right up there in terms of playoff production the last two seasons.
That being said I want him back at the right amount but it seems unlikely. Hopefully they have a plan to replace him if he’s gone. I just fear we are about to lose out on his prime years.

Where some of us are coming from is that JD isn't the difference maker he is being portrayed as. Is he a good player? yeah he is, but he isnt a 6+ mil per year player (which obviously is where we differ).
My point has always been not that a player in house will do EXACTLY what JD does, but that we need to differentiate the roster more to include more scoring. His defensive game definitely can be made up in house. In fact, with Leach on the coaching staff you can bet there will be a shift in philosophy on team defense.
JD's scoring can be replaced. Believe it or not, he hasn't provent to be any more than a 40-50pt player. That can be replaced short term. |

Back at the right price. I agree. I also agree that they dont exactly have a plan, and if they do, its to gamble like he did with Korpisalo. |

Overpaying a player because you are worried there's nothing else out there is the worst thing you can do. There will always be someone else available down the road.
After 7 seasons and 2 diff coaches we know what we have in DeBrusk. He's a 40-50 point player, and we should not be paying a player like that 6m+ |

Sure, a proven 50 point player who has done it multiple times. Maybe if he can have a 3-5 year running average of 50 points.
Remind me how many times he hit 50 pts again? Once? And who exactly he was playing with when he did?
Fact of the matter is none of this matters. He is hitting the market and I'm willing to bet he decided to do that a while ago. He will sign somewhere he can play with a top tier center that will boost his numbers. Watch it be somewhere like Toronto.
Good player, but he is going to the open market and will be overpaid. Book it |

Honestly if a player like that in their prime wants to join, make room.
Depending on what's left, it can't be that hard to figure out with the cap going up.
That's if he wants to join though. |
