Didn't both the PK and the PP suck in the playoffs? - Rare_Jewel

End of story! š
Youāre funny
Obv, Iād prefer RHD if possible
Zadorov is a game changer, no RHD comparable i can see as UFA. Iād go 5.25m max
You also want to trade McCabe and bring in OEL š
That makes us even softer
If Lilly and Niemela can get things going offensively, no need for OEL
Need more knuckle draggers to clear the net
Bet on Pesce at 6.5m? - mr.sir Liljegren? No thanks. Did you notice in the finals? No midgets on the defensive pairings for both sides. Do not waste your time on midgets. They get hurt to easy and shy away from hits. Kasperitis was the only smaller defenseman that I can remember being able to dominate.

The answer to adding a top 4 RD is to make it part of a Marner deal. Gotta have an auction and see who's willing to part with what we need. It's best that they go fleece old man Lou for a young RD. Noah Dobson is the ticket. Make it so! - PrinceLH
Pulock Varlamov and a pick might be the most Lou would offer |

Lilly only played well when 44 was injured and he was good running the PP
Leafs had a good streak too
Heās an offensive dman who has been miscast in a role he shouldnāt be in
Off to ā¾ļø practice now |

I have to thank several of you fine leafers for hipping me to using mayo instead of butter for grill cheese sandwiches. I fired that up, and say what you want about your hockey takes, you sons of female doges know grill cheese. |

Lou's cap situation is as bad as it gets, even if Marner would waive for NYI, even if they somehow want him when they already have Barzal.

Jays first base coach makes me have John Olerud flashbacks for whatever the reasonā¦kinda looks like him and especially with the bucket on. Both standing near the first base bag too probably |

If the Leafs had draft picks, they could try to pry a D from them. |

They do still have the majority of their own picks, perhaps prospects may be more appealing. Not that the leafs have that to shop either but I can see them going the picks/prospects for Pulock type route.
They need to cut salary somewhere just to sign their own RFA's, let alone fill the UFA gaps. |

Trouba has fallen out of favour in NYR
Looking to move him
How much would they need to retain?
Also, I recall Drexel proclaiming him the best Dman in the NHL a few months ago š |

A+.
There are some great undersized Dmen who can light it up on the offensive end. But, you need size and grit that can make guys pay a price in the defensive end.
Every team needs an elite offensive Dman. But, one elite Dman is enough |

Folks need to look at the Capf numbers while we still can. There are 11 teams that will have significant cap space even after resigning all their own players. Every one of those teams has the cap space to make a significant signing in the $7/8m+ price range.
In past years those same teams (Utah, Chicago, Seattle et. al., have been looked on to help out other teams trying to dump salary. But the cost in terms of picks and prospects for a salary dump has gotten very high.
More important, I think those same 11 teams are now more buyers than sellers and they are going to push the price on available UFAs very high.
Last thought, more a question. Yzerman has created substantial cap space. He has two big RFA signings and may still have $8-$10m to play with.
Do you think Yzerman is stalking Stamkos? |

I think any team in need of offense is watching the Stamkos situation. If he hits the market, he will be in high demand, despite his age and injury history. He still produces at a point per game consistently (when healthy) and just hit 40 goals again last season. He still has gas in the tank and is hungry for a third cup ring.
Having said that, I think he stays put in Tampa.
Also, having said that, if he leaves, it better be for Toronto. But again, the smart money bet is on him staying in Tampa.

Leafs could do it if they move Marner. And, it would mean they could move Marner needing only to get picks and prospects back.
Not a fan of trading Marner but that might actually work.

I think something drastic would have to happen for Stamkos to leave Tampa. He has put down roots in Tampa as a city and there is a tight culture in the locker room. Not to suck my own Richard, but Tampa has a class organization from top to bottom. Top rate in every category you could want as a player. You name a factor that a player would consider in a trade/move, and Tampa is near the top of the list.
I'd say 90% he stays - unless Briesbois decides to burn it all down and trade Hedman as well. Stamkos and Hedman retire as Lightning members. (GS4)

I agree with the assessment of retaining Domi Robertson and Dewar
Domi was the only forward that was noticeable in a good way during the playoffs, willing to do more, had some jump, and a genuine excitement.
Bertuzzi didn't stand out enough, be it lack of opportunity or what have you during the regular season or playoffs. Treliving will be looking at results in dollar amounts, Domi earned his keep and had a positive impact. I'd be looking for similar players that brings that kind of energy, the focus this off season is changing the defense however I will have some cost effective free agent forwards to share when Mike publishes that piece. Looking forward to it. |
