Hearing Chicago and Vancouver working on a deal that will create cap room for the Canucks — potentially involving Ilya Mikheyev and rights to Sam Lafferty, with a second-round pick as a sweetener
- Elliotte Friedman just now - TommyHawk
Also, if it turns out to be a 2nd it wouldn’t even be this year as the Canucks don’t have one this year.
A future 2nd for eating two years and almost $5m for a below-average player is a rough piece of business IMO.

I missed the 2nd.
Do you think a second is enough to take on that contract? - paulr
I believe that's the going rate, and i do prefer Lafferty on the bottom 6 then all the guys we aren't resigning. |

Lafferty is better than a lot of last year's bottom 6'ers but hoping Kyle has his sights set on a couple players that are legit top/middle 6 to push some other guys down in the lineup.
I think Dots was trying to imply the Russian buddy angle for Demidov which I doubt was lost on you, I hope...
Anyway, they do have Kurashev as someone pointed out speaks fluent Russian. - HawkintheD
Wasn’t sure if that’s what Dots was implying? I thought he was more pointing to a trade.
The various mock drafts are almost 50/50 between Demidov and Levshunov. |

It appears Lafferty is a free agent, so Van would be trading the rights. And Lafferty would not only be an upgrade he may be valuable at the TDL. But I’m not sure a second pick is worth helping Vancouver’s cap problem?

Okay so let me think about this
McDavid drafted 6 seasons before they made the playoffs consistently
Barkov 8 seasons before they made the playoffs consistently
So 9 seasons in the league gets to SC final for McD and 10 for Barkov
So as I've stated before, i have no problem with them signing or making deals for impactful FA or RFAs but let's see what we got before we jump the gun, this is all based on Bedards time line imo. - BetweenTheDots
I guess we should disregard how long it took Kane, Toews, Croby, Pastrnak, Mackinnon and others to regularly make the playoffs. No two situations are the same. Adding a key/star player for larger dollars and longer term should not be avoided out of hand. It takes a blend of talents and contracts. Look at the different make ups of the last 10 Champs.

Possibly. Mikheyev isn’t that bad, he’s just not worth his contract. He’d be great support for Demidov. |

Chicago is send a 2027 4th to Vancouver (apparently). Vancouver’s 2nd is in 2025. |

So do we get 25, 26 2nd rounder, probably 25 so we can use it to move up in the draft again. |

It does take a bit of everything, but the Hawks are just laying down the foundation via the draft, which is the place to start because prospects take a little while to really get their feet under them. Trades and UFA will play a part in rebuilding the team. I just doesn't happen all at once and you can't rush it. You wait for the opportunities to improve the team.
Btw, sounds like a 2nd in 2025 and a 4th in 2027 as part of the Vancouver trade. |

I think it took Mikhayev less than a month to be in Tocchet’s doghouse. |

Here's an interesting rumor, Lafferty and Mikheyev to the Blackhawks
Russian, ehhh? - BetweenTheDots
Ilya Mikheyev hasn’t formally agreed to waive his no-trade clause yet to go to #Blackhawks, but provided he does, teams have agreement in place on a trade:
To #Blackhawks: Ilya Mikheyev, 2nd Rd Pick, pending UFA Sam Lafferty
To #Canucks: 4th Rd Pick

A late 2nd for an early 4th. About 1.5 round difference.

Not seeing it myself, but in Kyle we trust. And as Dots implied he may have tipped his hand as to the #2 overall. |

I'm not sold on the Canucks they had a great year but i wouldn't be surprised if they missed the playoffs next season |

Well i look at it like this, KD has added 2 bottom 6 wingers better than what we had before. I can see Lafferty having ice time with Bedard as well. |

1 goal last 50 games he fits right in. Paul, he played 3 years with the Leafs, is there anything there? |

Well, I guess we'll have to see how this plays out, but it's additional assets to keep or use in future trades. In the next 18 months we could see the Blackhawks retain salary on Mikheyev and move him on. Lafferty is a useful rental piece for a team, so we could end up with multiple picks down the road for a 4th. It's not like we are needing the cap space right now and these guys are NHL players. They aren't stars but they belong in the NHL. |

I just read online that it's being speculated that Ken Holland is leaving Edmonton and coming to the Chicago Blackhawks. Per Frank Severalli supposedly. |

If the long game is to help Demidov get acclimated in to years, maybe. In the interim the hope will be chemistry with Bedard. Vancouver aren’t giving anything up including Lafferty. Still not sure the second round pick is a great deal for helping Vancouver overcome their cap problems? But we have to trust KD, but this is the second curious move, assuming the deal goes through, he’s made in the last few weeks.
