Your lack of belief in the several sources doesnt define that its not true.
But go on, you have to argue - Fakepartofme
Not arguing, I just believe it as true, and even if it is we don’t have evidence other than rumoured news. |

They are all using the same "rumor"...
The rumor: John Tavares reached out to the Islanders on Sunday morning to inform them of his decision to move on from the franchise. The Isles reportedly made Tavares an offer of $88 million over eight years and are believed to have increased it at the minute, according to The Fourth Period. But the other teams involved in the sweepstakes are said to have gone even higher, with the Sharks offering $91 million across seven years — a whopping $13 million AAV that would make Tavares the highest-paid player in the NHL. - Nasty_Duck
"Tavares was the crown jewel of the 2018 free-agent class. After meeting with six teams, he signed a seven-year, US$77-million contract with the Leafs. The San Jose Sharks had offered US$91 million for seven years. But Tavares was a hometown boy, and with young stars like Auston Matthews, the Leafs were a team with potential."
Notice how they didnt say "it was rumour" or "may have".
Anywho, its old news, well documented, and nuts for sure. |

Here's my unwanted 2 cents; Treliving should be trying to trade John Tavares and re-signing little Mitch Marner. Yes I know he has a NMC. Nobody needs an 11 million dollar second line center. Is Tavares still a good player even though he's 34 in September, clearly yes he is, but there's five or six million you can use on improving your poopty goaltending and defense. |

Ummm, they traded him for a more physical 100pt player. - Fakepartofme
Lets not pretend this was a 1 for 1 trade it was anything but that, however who is to say the Leafs couldn't move Marner + for another 100 point player that is better suited for what they seemingly need or that plus more?
That's almost exactly what the Panthers did and that was my point, the entire narrative of you shouldn't trade a 100 point player (who has never got 100 points) is asinine.
FYI as a reminder this was the trade:
https://www.nhl.com/flame...uberdeau-weegar-335071552
Everyone (ok many) were raving about the haul Calgary got and touting the Calgary GM at the time (who was that again?) as the GM of the year.
We know Huberdeau fell off a cliff bit time and Tkachuck's game only got better but looking at the trade at the time it was made it looked like a good one for Calgary.

the only response Tavares will say is No to any trade that will be presented to him. |

Not if the Leafs tell him he's not welcome back next year.
He's better off getting a new start somewhere else a year early. |

JT is going to play out his contract and be re signed to a new deal or retire.
Rare Jewel, AA or you can dream of him being moved but it's not going to happen, he said he wants to stay, he's from Toronto and his family including parents are all in Toronto and he has full control over if he gets moved or not.
Why does anyone in their right mind think he would accept a trade anywhere? And before someone chimes in with the "play him 4th line minutes, bench him, no power play time and make life miserable for him so he wants to leave" you can save your fingers the typing, it'll never happen.
This version of MLSE is a lot of things but an organization that shafts their players is definitely not one of them.
If anything they are the other end of that spectrum and rightfully so as they need the good will to offset the insanity of the scrutiny from the fanbase and media in Toronto.

How caught up in your own arrogance are you, D you really believe that a player signs onto a full NMC thinking that if the team tells him "he's not welcome back", he will just go awe shucks guess I have to agree to waive it then.
How about he goes well tough titty, I have a contract which you cannot move without my consent and I want to be here and will be here. |

So the year after McDavid set the bar with his $12.5m deal, another GM is gonna up that for a player that's not nearly as good?
Sorry, rumors don't do it for me. I need to see citations. - Nasty_Duck
UFA vs RFA
if Mcdavid was able to get offers from other teams... maybe he would have got higher offers

usually the player will then decide where to go, completely (frank)ing up the potential trade scenarios the GM was hoping for.

Their (frank)en captain at that. What a powerful recruiting tool that would be. Yes, we took our respected captain and punished him to the 4th line because he would not agree to a trade, want to sign a long term reasonable deal to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs?
Full on silly season. |

they get waived but often it is the player that decides what the potential destinations are. The player is in full control at that point. |

That's fine, he can decide where he lands with a 3rd team eating half the salary to reach the cap floor as a pit stop in between.
The more important part is getting him off the team. |

I'm laughing 1st - because there's no proof of that.
And secondly, that any team would offer a player who never broke 90 pts 13m/yr.
In his 9 years with NYI he broke 90 pts 3 times. THRE times.
So I do find it funny that ANY team would offer him 13m/year. Leafs offering him 11m per year was bad. 13m / year would ... stop time.

Marner is a multiple time Selke candidate and among the best two-way forwards the Leafs have (only one of the stars that plays the PK). |
