Even if you could get the Pens to keep 50% of his salary he’ll still be $2,687,500 a year for the next 4 seasons. Wonder if someone will go for that?

In the same vein that's a backup goalie number, unless it's an entry level deal.

Probably not, but if Woll is on an entry level deal and he's your backup there are worse options.

Oh I know and I agree… but for what the leafs need to fill in and make work they need a cheap, but reliable, version of the backup this year. Get Jones back or something along those lines.

You trust Joffrey Woll's health way too much.

Unless this is just a run in back season to get JT's $11m off the books, then fine. Get the zamboni driver. Who cares.

Is he (Holland) really?
- Fakepartofme

Built a team that went to the Cup Final, did he not?

Leafs have similar (not exactly) the same building blocks with their high draft pick talent core.

He has enough Stanley Cups as a builder. I'd fire Shanahan and Treliving immediately for Holland.

Holland isn't perfect. He made some mistakes in Edmonton, no doubt, but he did enough to get them within 2 goals of a Cup.

At 29 going on 30, I think Bertuzzi's best years are behind him. Can the Leafs really afford to give "term" to a guy who had 20 goals and 40 points with 1 playoff goal?

3 years, max. Leafs can get a 20 goal scorer elsewhere if he wants more.

At first I was a little disappointed that Mangiapane went, but then I realized he makes $5.8m. I liked 35 goal Mangiapane from 2 years ago for this salary; I don't like 14 goal Mangiapane at that salary.

Agreed. But luckily, he's a UFA next year so maybe the Leafs could sign him at a cheaper rate. He's a hometown type of guy.

I don't know what's out there. Is Skinner actually being bought out? Is Perron interested?

I'm certainly not pinning any hopes on a 36 year old guy being a difference maker, but I like the culture shift that a guy like Perron could provide. I'm not sure if Skinner would want to come here and if he is being bought out, but there are options out there that seem cheaper. I'll definitely grant that I'm so very much not a fan of Bertuzzi which does create a bias.

I like Bertuzzi. But I don't like what Bertuzzi will look like at 34 when he's already looking average at 29.

I'd rather take the 36 year old on a 1 year deal (with motivation) than giving Bertuzzi a contract you can't get rid of until he's 36.

Again, Skinner, great example. If he gets bought out, I see him as a great opportunity to sign a guy on a 1 year deal like Duchene signed with the Stars last year.

That's exactly why Perry should be on the Leafs target list. He's motivated, he's old but he's on 1 year deals which give the Leafs much more flexibility and accountability.
