I caught up after the Sabbath. will try and get a blog up on it later or in am. Really like the first round pick and okay with the fourth rounder. Fifth and sixth rounder continue a pattern of drafting bigger players, but would have liked to see one flier on a sniper type winger.
- airjan23

We’ve done well on some of those bigger players though in the late rounds. Rempe Edstrom Roobroeck Barron. The only one I see that can pan out in those same years that we’ve drafted that’s small is Bedard but he also plays with an edge. 4th+ rounds we’re talking about.

Since DET is the likely destination if he is traded, what about Kakko and Trouba for Edvinsson
- nyrangers9479

If Yzerman even thought of doing that he should be fired. You really think Detroit would take on over 10 mil of cap with no salary going back and give you our best defense prospect on top of it?

Kakko is another Rasmussen without the defensive play. Big, plays soft and people keep expecting more offense from them but it never comes. I would only want Trouba if the Rangers retained money and Holl needs to be heading out either to the Rangers or somewhere else to help offset the salary and free up a roster spot.

With Walman gone, Edvinsson should be in the Wings top 4 full time next season. I think Edvinsson is the reason Yzerman was fine with dumping Walman to the Sharks.

Kakkos defense is probably the best part of his game, despite not being a penalty killer. He has great puck possession abilities and gets to the right areas in the offensive zone but hesitates to shoot. This season he did snipe a few, so it’s in there. Would love for him to play a little meaner, especially considering his size. Overall his problem is his timidness, but regardless the Rangers would be foolish to include him in a trade as a throw in. In no way should he be considered a salary dump because replacing what he does for the same or less would be next to impossible.

If were retaining money, the only thing Id want back from DET is a pick. If DET takes on the full contract, then we can take Holl.

Shesty wanting $13 million, if true, should be his 1 way ticket out of here. You can’t win with a goalie taking up that kind of a cap hit

Can a team win the Cup with a 13m forward? How is it any different if youre paying 13 million for the player thats best at putting them in or 13 million for the player thats best at keeping them out?

In the end Im sure they will settle with a number somewhere around 11-11.5m. He will be the highest paid goalie in the league.

Agents use the Rangers to drive prices up all the time, but think about it, these players arent free agents yet so you really cant talk to them, of course there are back door deals but if you get caught its a hefty fine.

Drury in the past has always been tight lipped so everything you hear should be taken with a grain of salt.

I agree with you, around the 11 to 12 range, hopefully the players step up because we know it wasnt Igors fault the past 2 years.

Certainly was not Igor’s fault. Thats why my focus on all this is to get players who hit the spots we struggle at.

Tampa traded a 3rd for Guentzel. He’ll be signing there it seems

The #Canes have acquired a 2025 3rd round pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Jake Guentzel - pretty clear he is signing long term there.

Well, wanted him to leave the East completely, but I'll take this. Joining an ageing Tampa team is better than him re-signing in Carolina for us.

Having a goalie taking up 14% of your cap doesn’t allow you to fill the bottom 6 with good depth players, good 3rd pair etc. Unless you get lucky and have drafted really well, a goalie taking 14% of the cap is a recipe for disaster. Not to mention we have 3 other players combining for $30 million next year (I’m leaving Trouba out bc it seems like he will be gone).

So $43 million, almost half our cap, on 4 players (Shesty Fox Panarin Zib). The “young” guys, Laf Miller Schneider etc will all be up for new deals soon also.

Are they really aging? Out side of Stamkos, Hedman and Kucherov, who are still playing at an elite level, most of the squad is in their prime, under 30.

That leaves a fair amount of room for them to bring back Stamkos.
