So if they couldn’t do it in 20 years with those goalies, what makes you think they would have built it out better without a high price goalie? An extra 6-7 million in cap space wouldn’t have changed anything

You can do it with both. Tampa and Florida proved that. But they had the right other players and contracts that worked. Reason Drury is offloading dead weight right now in goody and trouba

If we cant find scoring from the bottom 6, we wont win anything. This team needs to be more than just Panarin, Trocheck, LAF and the PP.

Panarin isn’t Kucherov or Tkachuk and Zib isn’t Barkov or Stamkos/Point.

Is Panarin an elite regular season player? Absolutely. He disappears in the playoffs. I wouldn’t say Zib disappears, but he’s not in the same breath as Barkov or Stamkos. Point, yes, but Point is much more clutch in the playoffs. They both also had big, physical dmen. Something most on here pretend still doesn’t matter.

I don’t think either disappear completely but they are too one dimensional as your elite players in the PO. That’s why being stuck with them you one to improve 5v5 elsewhere. Add big mobile defensemen, get scoring from your 3rd line. That might be enough to prop those guys up or it won’t be. Time will tell

I’ve accepted Panarin and Zib are going nowhere. Having them is fine, but we can’t add more guys “like them” (Kane etc). We need to find some tough physical players to get into the top 9.

The obsession with tough and physical is not why we lost. We lost because we are offensively a one dimensional squad with no depth scoring. The 2 games we got goals from our bottom 6, were the 2 games we won against Florida. The best teams in the league will always have an answer to your top 2 lines. Its the bottom 6 that makes the difference. Its why for years Ive said endlessly Chytil should not center the 3rd line. That line is not suited for a player like him.

You’re right, tough and physical mean nothing. That’s why all they talked about at the draft was teams going for guys that were tough and physical 🤔😂

Florida Panthers had the 2nd most penalties in the NHL this season. They simply pounded and wore down opponents with their tough, physical style of play all the way to the Stanley Cup. Its not an obsession, simply reality that you need to grasp.

Will "goon" teams win the Cup every year? Of course not! But you need to understand the how/why we lost to the Champs if we can get better and advance as a team...

Nate Schmidt is getting bought out by Jets, very similar situation that we have with Trouba. Good NHL 3rd pairing d-man that simply makes too much money. Might be a sneaky good signing by Drury if he can bring him to NY...

We lost because we were continuously outskated on both ends of the ice. You cant possibly talk about getting more physical while also backing Chytil and Kakko on the third line. We want to talk about Kakko's defensive abilities, meanwhile he was constantly exposed by Florida while also being a pillow. Chytil, also a pillow, pushed off the puck like a squirt. Thats 7m tied up into 2 players who dont provide a brand of hockey conducive to the playoffs. If theyre not scoring, and theyre not hitting, what are they doing? This is why Im constantly talking about the bottom 6. This is why I said it in my previous post, the best teams in the league will usually be able to go stride for stride with the top 2 lines, when it comes to the playoffs, its the bottom 6 that ultimately tip the scale.

I was thinking, is it worth maybe giving Comtois a look to maybe play LW4, hes got size, hes physical. Hes always had this upside that hasnt really manifested itself, however he does chip in offensively. We can give him a 1 year, 2 way contract, definitely fits what were looking for here, at the very least gives us organizational depth.

While I agree that bottom 6 needs to contribute offensively if you're going to win a cup, I disagree that top 6 just gets a pass because each team's cancel the other's out. Our top 6 has to get better if we're gonna win it all. Zib and panarin ain't it.
