You’re right, I don’t know how it will all turn out. But I do know that every single scouting report and hockey publication available to the public had Buium rated MUCH higher than Luchanko.
Every. Single. One. - BiggE
We also saw what Buium ACCOMPLISHED this year and what Luchanko did….again Luchanko is a good prospect , but the guy they passed on has elite talent potential…something that beyond Michkov, the Flyers simply don’t have. |

The question I keep going back to is this. How are the Flyers going to acquire elite talent?
Their strategy on draft night shows they don’t know either.
Maybe they don’t care and are gonna middle six the nhl to death. - StepfordSam
Do you actually watch any ohl games? |

You have no idea how these kids will shake out. Luchanko has a big D+1 year and everyone’s singing a different tune. Youngest guy in the draft. - ClaudeFather
The Flyers really love Luchenko and believe he is just scratching the surface. And as I suspected, the Flyers want size on defense given they have York, Drysdale and Andrae, thus they passed on Buium who is on the smaller side. Luchenko projects to be a Nick Susuki. If this happens, I think we all will be very happy with a future captain and all-star. |

Crapshoot once you hit those higher first round picks. Would the kid have been there late teens to early 20s, probably. |

If Buium has elite potential the Flyers would not have passed on him. I do no believe with Buium's size that he will be a top pairing defenseman. Size matters in the NHL, not so much in juniors or college. |

The only thing I like about last night was loading up on first round picks for next year if, as they say, next draft is much deeper.. |

I wonder if Bill is going to write a damage control piece like Biden's advisors. Or just write a lukewarm piece not attacking the brass or the holy Alumni. 😉 |

Did size prevent Kimmo Timonen (who was listed at a whopping 5' 10") from being a top-pairing defenseman?
I get it... there are a lot of smallish players already playing the blue line for Philly, but none of those smallish guys are irreplaceable, especially for a team that's missed the playoffs the past 4 seasons and has zero NHL-calibre depth in the system. |

always entertaining seeing you felate over everything this incompetent organization does.
size smize. yuu draft the dman then trade on of the other low-level guys you have who you ar eenmored with. Andrae will be at best a bottom pair guy if he makes the nhl.
Do you think they drafted the BPA or did they draft by need?

Good trade of the 32nd pick. They get a higher pick in a future draft. Possibly on the next draft.
3 first would be nice - WhiskeyMan
3 first absolutely puts them in the drivers seat if they want to trade up next year. Now can we please finish bottom 10

in the drivers seat to draft some more middle of the road types.
or hopefully use them to acquire some vets to make a playoff push |

Not that it will matter but the Oilers pick is top 12 protected. If the oilers somehow get a top 12 next yr the pick slides to 2026

After their 1rst round tonight I’m not seeing a GM that’s inspiring much confidence….no player trades…a reach for a guy. A buyout because of warm and fuzzy feelings. A bad day. - landros 2
the buyout saves the team money, its still a business if you can save a mil or two doing it, it makes sense

I will take a wait and so approach. n the surface it is very very questionable.
positive is this kid is 17 and lead his team in scoring. got them to the playoffs. so lets see how he progresses.
my issue is you take the dman (he fell in your lap) then you move up to take this kid with the extra 1st in 24 and extra 1st in 25. That to me could have been accomplished.
hearing the bs excuses from danny boy does not give me much confidence at all. making need based picks isnt a recipe for success. |

no issue with dealing that pick after they did what they did earlier.
in theory it should be higher. |

With how young Jett is and all the draft picks next year, it makes little sense to have anyone on the roster who is on a contract past age 28. I'll exclude Tippett only because his contract will be over at age 33. If everything goes well, Jett and these future 1st rdrs will be next to Michkov when he is signing his second contract. |
