This is all fair. The Rangers do not use excuses like taxes or the Cap. The Rangers try to change things when things are not working. Aggressive teams win and passive teams struggle.

Aggressive teams tend to put themselves in better positions to succeed. Passive teams are sometimes a result of aggressive at the wrong times. Thus, their cabinets are bare and their pocketbooks empty.

I was thinking the same thing. I am sure Roy wants someone that knows and understands his system. Who were his assistants in Colorado?
- Nfdbulldawg

I just looked it up. Tim Army, David Quinn, Andre Tourigny, and Dave Farrish šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø. Whoever he brings in I hope itā€™s a person who excels at the job rather than a friend.

At this point Lou should use the whatever fits in the budget and improves the team. The best none moves would be let the aging players go. Save your cap space and see what falls out of the tree after training camp. Maybe a couple of vets that can help the line up.

If not standpat until Thanksgiving as you will build up cap space.

Listen, Sorokin could come back solid. He knows he did not fare well at the end of year. That may give him some incentive. JGP may come in with chip given all the talk about moving him. That pop you hear maybe Wally finally figuring it out. Pullock and Pelech are healthy.

Yes, there are a lot of moving parts, but I do not see it any other way right now. Lou has not indicated to the otherwise.

- Nfdbulldawg

I think(hope) Lou is doing exactly what I hoped for. Let the contracts expire organically. Donā€™t unload unwanted salaries by giving up assets. Trade whatever you can during the season when weā€™re out of(hopefully) the playoffs.

I hope this is what heā€™s doing. In other words letā€™s not fool ourselves into thinking this is going to be a competitive year. It shouldnā€™t be.

He was looking to get paid. I do not think Tampa is a contender. Their core is on the closing side of the window. I would have worked something out with Canes. I think Canes chances of getting back are stronger than Tampas.
- Nfdbulldawg

I still believe Tampa is a contender. Aging, yes but they still have major talent. Crazy to see Stamkos allowed to walk. He shoulda retired in Tampa.

I agree about saving as much Cap space as possible. Maybe running the team back is smartest thing right now minus CC and MM.

It's not just about Sorokin. The defense needs to be much better and especially Pelech and Pulock and Dobson needs to be better on D.

The Islanders idea of being aggressive is giving bad contracts to players like Lee, Pierre, and Mayfield. Being smart and aggressive is knowing when to move on from players and getting a return.

I think the team will be competitive. I am not foolish to think that they will definitely make the playoffs. Not with Devs, Sens, and Wings making moves. On top of the Cats, Tampa, Canes, Bruins, Leafs, Rags, Caps and Pens. The east will be no joke.

Ranger goaltender Igor Shesterkinā€™s representatives are seeking a contract extension that would be worth 14 percent of the Rangersā€™ cap hit. That would be $12.9 million annually under an expected cap of $92 million for 2025-26.

SPECTORā€™S NOTE: Shestekin holds the leverage here. Brooks observed the Rangers canā€™t let him simply walk out the door next summer. Losing their starting goaltender would be a big blow to their Stanley Cup hopes.

That is a big hit for a goalie. I get they play full games, but it goes back to what several had said here. Is this going to win you that championship. Statistics have shown no !!!

That is huge money to give a goalie and especially for the Rangers who always seem to find goalies.

Theyā€™re just gonna have to get creative with how itā€™s structured. Theyā€™ll prob end up giving him heavy bonusā€™. Like if he breaths 5 times a season he gets an 11 million bonus and the remaining 1.9 is salary.

Bit of a contradiction no? Unless you have a different idea then I do with what competitive is.

Ahh, July 1st. NHL free agent day. Look forward to this day like I us to look forward to Christmas. And I was usually disappointed then as I will be today. Not that I have any expectations to begin with.
