Seems pretty quiet on the Canucks front...I think losing out on Jake is a big hit for this management group. That being said I'm sure Jim and Patrick will have something up their sleeve. |

Most of the signings right now are with their own teams/teams that have their rights... expect all the news to be breaking in an hour
Ruthy usually runs a really tight ship on rumours as well |

I don’t think they were ever in on the big fish.
Smart to wait out the frenzy and see what’s available after.
Keep some money available to take some players off teams that need to clear cap space |

Hearing Nashville has emerged as a serious contender for Jonathan Marchessault
Preds also rumoured to have interest in Stamkos |

Yeah that sounds about right. I put in my plan B targets as Debrusk, Sprong and Roy.

Are you stuck in 2022? This team is competing. Not rebuilding/retooling. You don’t get high end players as left overs. That’s for your bottom roster. Canucks need to fill the top. They tried to go after top players but got outmaneuvered. Now it’s plan B. |

Yes and no. They need an impact top 6 player... those guys don't normally wait around to day two and beyond. Can definitely still trade for one, but signing someone day one doesn't necessarily hurt.
Should for sure keep some cap space open though, they did well last year signing Blueger, Cole, Suter, etc later on |

Alex Burrows won’t be back with the @CanadiensMTL coaching staff next season. It’s his decision, not the team decision. He wanted to spend more time with his family. He’ll normally stay in the organization in another position. |

I think Soucy was there only signing on opening day last year.
I think the necessary winger comes in a trade, not free agency. DeBrusk would be nice for the right price. |

I agree, I think they wait until arbitration season and pick off players in trade from teams that are capped out because of big RFA arbitration awards or overspent on UFAs today. |

A trade will be costly in picks and prospects. Neither of which Canucks have in abundance. Better they spend the money less risky.
They probably will leave a few million to fill out the bottom part of roster. Though might apply it to farm hands. |

Who do you see on that list that will be attainable? Canucks have no trade capital to spare. |

They're not retooling/rebuilding - they're being smart and not B'ing their L on stupid-a$$ huge contracts like we did EVER YEAR in the past - and it NEVER worked out.
Allvin said the other day - its not about signing one big guy. It doesnt mean they cant accomplish filling their needs - by committee. |

That trade is going to require picks and prospects, all of which went to go get Lindy... |

Yes they were being smart with their own UFA’s and held a line. But their offers on those not signed are reported in ranges you would fine uncomfortable. Just like what they would have offered Guentzel if he was available. In this league you got to pay to play the top end guys. Hronek and Petey they did.
Allvin is going with plan B now for what is left on the market. So you might like that better now.
