Yes, looks like the league finally caught on that he sucks

There you go - 2x2 for Desharnais and not a dime left even to sign Silovs. Zero cap flexibility and one contract too many. Let me guess - we need to trade a 2nd away to open up space??

Since Nighty and Dbot arr MIA on the new lineup let’s put it down as it stands now.

Debrusk JTM Boeser
Joshua Petey Garland
Heinen Suter Sherwood
Hogs Bluegar Podz

QH Hronek
Soucy Myers
Forbort Desharnais

Demko
Patera

Extra PDG, Juulson, Friedman Amon?

Forwards are tougher and faster and D big that is nasty with puck moving top pair.

Canucks were tops in the division almost won the conference and a goal away from going to WCF. All without Vezina caliber Demko. I don’t think you understand that management is continuing to compete.

They would have signed Guenztal given a chance. They signed Patera to back up. Silovs has no negotiating power and was qualified. He’s going to Abby. Your approach for cap flexibility or weaponizing is for a bubble team looking to sell later in the season.

Coupled with your "But they seem oblivious to the other crucial part of this business" comment, you seem to think you know more than vastly experienced personnel who run and have run NHL teams for years. These people have way more knowledge and forethought than some random internet poster. You might not agree on their style of doing things, but they sure as poop know what they're doing.

As well, right now the Canucks have about 1.9 mil in cap space due to LTIR, and that's not including sending someone down like Aman and/or PDG to get the contracts down.

Take a breath, it will all be okay.

Dude we still have $2.7MM in space. Silovs is $900k. We are in a great spot. We might have the most physical team in the league. About time

That’s an awful lot of projecting there bud. At no point did I say I know more than any of our MGMT but I know what has worked for good teams that consistently have success and what hasn’t worked (for us for the last decade) and I’m sure u as well - when u look around the league.

Consistently throwing away picks and never attempting to regain them and never having cap flexibility are two aspects of the game that I’d love for this group to start focussing on - that’s it. I’m shocked you and Don disagree actually. And I’m super calm, enjoying a rare Canada Day travel day.

Canucks have flexibility for injury call ups. There roster is now set. They replaced everyone that went out for less money and still are big and now tougher to play against plus faster at forward. Plan B was a good value day.

Maybe there is a Silovs trade in the works? IMO we are still a 2nd paring d man short
- claygolf83

I thought he was gone at the draft but the goalie market turned out to be pretty soft and not worth giving him up for what probably would have only been a third.

TSN panel was highlighting Arty as a possible offer sheet candidate so there is that we have to worry about
- claygolf83

Has to be offered at least 2.3 per for us to recoup a 2nd.

You saying how to build a team and them being oblivious to your way of doing it is basically saying you know more than them on how to build a successful team.

As for cap flexibility, they just spent a good chunk on players because.... they had a lot of cap flexibility. And they've staggered their cap situation to have cap flexibility. They've been really solid on their signings and forethought. If the last regime left us with better younger players coming up, they probably wouldn't be pushing things exactly the way they are, and I expect that to change a little as the next waves of young players come in next year.

Enjoy your travel day!

Yup you're right - very close to moving on and I agree we're just entering our competetive window. But I do understand perfectly, that in order to compete for a long time (which I hope is everyones goal) you have to constantly focus - even a little bit -on drafting, attaining picks and being smart with the cap. The motive for those decisions shouldnt depend on whether or not you're a contending team or a bubble team. Thats short term thinking, I'm kinda blown away that you and a few others disagree with the importance of aspect of the game.

Great theres money a little money availble for Silovs, I still don't agree that belongs back in Abby.

Yeah man - maybe I came off too strong ( I do like a lot of moves we made today and also in terms of our re-signings) but really my concern is for MGMT to do a better job of balancing every aspect of the game/biz.

Right now our prospect pool is pretty bare - we have a few high end guys that realistically, we NEED them to hit - Likker, DPetey, Willander. After that - its all secondary role guys like Sasson, Bains, Karlsson, Pods, Raty, McWard. IMO thats just not enough quality. And contending teams consistently have/need to squeeze MAX value outta ELC players.

There's huge gaps coming if we dont address it now.

Didn't realize Gaunce was still playing.

How did the signings go. We went fishing 14.5 and 7.5 lb chinook.

Silovs needs playing time. He’ll get more of that in Abby and can easily be called up for games in NHL.

As for long term development team has set up it’s core for next 5 plus years. They are developing players to fill in next couple years. Those drafted in years to come will be after this core is gone.

You may question management’s decisions on how to compete and balancing out the future are made. They are making the most of what they have and it’s been working.

Yep it's a good call. Benning provides the Core and Allvin is rounding it out nicely.

Super impressed today how we addressed the needs.

Many good things ahead.

I’d hope RT has a long look at Debrusk with JTM and Boeser.

Garland matches with Petey better and Dak can earn his new contract making room and cashing in off their talent.

- Quinn's Quest

So no top 6 help for Petey again this season?

Poor way to manage that cap hit.... poor idea.

Dude they missed out on Guenztal. Lakkeramaki isn’t ready. What’s wrong with having a $20M top line and a $19M second line?

They needed to improve top 6 forwards. Lindy not wanting to resign they went away from strong top 9 middle. So adding scoring power forward with high end speed is good.

We’ll let RT figure it out who meshes better for Petey on Debrusk. Garland did have chemistry with Petey. So there is your help. Dak has chemistry with Garland and can help Petey on cashing in on set ups. Dak’s got another level according to RT.

RT now has more options. Seems
more speed and toughness. Plus a lot of players that can play his system both up and down the line up.

I'm thinking:

Heinan - JTM - Boes
DeBrusk - Petey - Hoggy
Joshua - Blueger - Garland
Sherwood - Suter - Podk

Heinan scored more than Suter last year in a smaller role, this way it gives the Canucks a lot of depth on their Cs

And he'll get regular playing time if they lighten Demkos workload to a 52/30(ish) split rather than run him into the ground while injuries will keep piling up. I'd rather Silvos get 30+ NHL games and spend the year with Clarke and the team rather than 35 in Abby. Patera isnt a better option in any way - he's played 8 NHL games & approx. the same amount in the AHL - let him share duties with Tolopilo - he's next in line.

And you're right - what they're doing is working - but it just started working so lets not get too ahead of ourselves, keep building the team in every way possible.

I see you like the old 3rd line back. It may happen that way. PA confirmed the Suter and Bluegar center depth role in his interview to media today.

Yes Hienan can play up the line up. Debrusk can line up with Petey but do you see chemistry as a pair there? (See my posted full line up roster above)

Sherwood is a right shot forward and pretty sure RT will deploy him the way he did Lafferty. But he hits more and harder plus just as fast.

Was reported Clarke was the one wanting Patera. Looks like he wants to work with him. His signing could be a steal. Demko will get major part of starts but they won’t run him to the ground. Tolipolo was actually better than Silovs in Abby but with less experience. RT has said he trust’s in Clarke in who should be playing where and when. Wouldn’t be surprised if there is a rotation among all 3 of the young guys between Abby and NHL starts.
