For what they want to do, yes.
They are very physical, they can actually win faceoffs, they are very fast and they are all adept on the PK.
This gives the Sabres two great PK units.

You don't need Greenway. - TheSabresTaco
Would you let Tage kill penalties regularly? That's where he first got hurt last year, isn't it?
C depth is looking very shaky.

Ok, so just a fit issue. I thought he would help our bottom 6, where he belongs, finally. Do you see the 4th line additions as improvements to him out of curiosity? - QuinnFan
Furthermore, you bought your entire 4th line.
Greenway's specialty is to make the line he's on more defensively sound. I could listen to an argument to keep him if you brought in an offensively inclined 3C. He actually worked pretty well with Tuch and Thompson. But if you keep him up there, you stifle their main purpose, which is to produce.
He wasn't good with Benson and Mittelstadt, who were often your third line minutes types.
So if you have Peterka-Thompson-Tuch producing offense, you leave them alone.
Kevyn doing his (frank)ing job gets you a 60 point player, Cozens and Quinn on the second line. Again, you don't want Greenway there most of the time.
So now he's on the third line, with Benson, who he was bad with, and a competent 3C, which is the ultimate variable. With Mitts, he was bad. Depending on the skill set of that 3C (btw he was really bad with Krebs), he becomes a spare part like the inverse Olofsson, only really useful in certain defensive situations.
Finding a, I dunno, a Daniel Sprong in this position would highly benefit the Sabres. |

Would I personally? No
I would hope they take his hand injury into consideration this year and realize he's too important to be blocking shots on the main unit. |

By the numbers, they played 12 games together and were very good. I'm not optimistic with swapping Krebs in, but it feels like their plan.

How was the bottom 6 heavily influenced by Ruff ? Everyone and there Mother knew the Sabres were going to have to do that. I think Ruff got blindsided with how bad it is here in trying to get players to say YES! - Buff36
Well, they did get a lot of players to say yes. Those were/are very good bottom 6 guys we got.
Where he's failing is filling the hole that HE created by buying out Skinner. A plan HE should have had in place BEFORE buying him out. HOWEVER, let me say this, after a few days of reflection:
If this current team plays last year's team, this current team beats them. It is a more well-rounded team, much tougher, a lot faster, willing to do the dirty things to win games. Last year's team gets steamrolled, even with Jeff Skinner.

it's a fringe bubble team if everything goes right
my issue once again is he is icing a team trying to get the 8th seed instead of icing a team trying to compete for the cup

I think the C adds a lot of context. They were fine with Cozens. Bad with junk combinations, like Girgs at C, or Greenway at C.
With Krebs, I just don't see anyone capable of driving that line offensively. Would take a big jump from Benson and Krebs.

I guess we will find out how good these supposed bottom 6 players are.
And the only way this current Team beats last year's Team is if UPL plays Fantastic. What players are replacing Skinner and Mitts production ? |

Maybe I'll end up liking him. For now, grossly overpaying for him and passing on some steals at 11 is aggravating.
It was a bad day, when I was promised a good day. - Lunaion
I’ve been saying all along, don’t expect many changes.
I really thought they had a legit shot at pk88
Still think Savoie is a long shot? |

To be fair, I expect better numbers from the 1st line. Mitts left a real hole, but his production didn't really come from the 3rd line.

Well, we know they tried. Doesn't count for anything, but they wanted to do more.
Yes, I fully expect Savoie in Roch to start. An injury could change things. All the talk is Kulich getting the shot. No one even mentions Rosen. Bet he's the one KA was trying hard to move.

That's fine but he said last year's team, I am glad he reworked the bottom line. But probably the easiest thing to do in the NHL next to Bottom pairing LD. |

It's my understanding that Kane doesn't want to play in Buffalo, which is pretty bad that the hometown boy wants nothing to do with playing here even if paid well.
Stamkos was never going to happen
Terry is delusional and Adams is just a yes man when it comes to that.
Adams certainly is leaving the next GM plenty of prospects for the next one to trade though... |
