Basically a Vet min contract just like I predicted. And it's less than $1M so they can simply waive him to avoid the cap hit at any time. As I said, he's not a legitimate NHLer anymore, just a depth piece. Not so sure Tampa is going to be that good either. |

Did they ever play together on Pittsburgh?

Heres them scoring 40 seconds apart. Not on the same line tho. - DirtyDan
In his last season with Pitt, I'm pretty sure it was him, Rakell and Malkin a lot. They'd have some familiarity. Makes some sense too as Rakell shouldn't be crazy expensive to acquire if Pitt is willing. Apparently they're winning the Tarasenko Procrastinators Sweepstakes. |

@JFreshHockey
Anton Lundell, signed 6x$5M by FLA, is a young two-way centre who kills penalties. Hasn't been a prolific producer or chance creator yet but chipped in at clutch moments in the 2024 Cup run. #TimetoHunt

@JFreshHockey
Among 176 forwards with 1800+ 5v5 minutes, Lundell ranks 159th in points per 60, and the underlyings back it up. This is a player who will need to grow into this deal, but the potential is there.

He’s also 54.9% on the dot … or 11th in the league in fancy stats faceoffs, not that faceoffs matter. Just ask Buffalo, we haven’t had a faceoff guy since the red rifle

Yet Lindy didn’t choose any assistants for his staff and Appart was promoted. And this is after Peca expressed interest in being on the bench coaching but we couldn’t force Matt freaking Ellis, with basically zero coaching experience into the press box.
The bottom line is the organization is a disaster and it starts and ends with Terry and it will not change until Terry changes something that doesn’t have a Pegula running things. - Gr8daygo
Matt Ellis was an Adams hire. He’s off the bench and is back to being a skills coach. Which is what he’s good at |

Loser: Buffalo Sabres Fans
I feel absolutely terrible for Sabres fans, myself included. This is a team that couldn’t find a trade partner for its first-round pick on Friday night. And then, they come out with a boatload of needs on Monday, and fill the bottom six nicely but do nothing to improve the top of the lineup. The Sabres bought out Jeff Skinner to give them more space to work, but instead feel, at this time, like an even weaker team than they were last year. The only hope right now is that general manager Kevyn Adams can pull off a big trade to bring in a scoring winger that fits what he and head coach Lindy Ruff are looking for. But after 13 years of no playoffs and failed expectations, it’s hard for Buffalo fans to think that happens. |

Rakell is 31 (turns 35 after regular season over in his UFA year) but still produces positive results regardless of the score sheet.
The difference between his xGAR and GAR is substantial (GAR significantly higher), which can be a red flag. But his year over year spar is pretty consistent. He's not a very fast player but for the third line he makes a fair amount of money. So, play it out. Historically he's a half point a game player. Not sure you want to pay a guy 5M to be that, but each their own.
So, this year

Next year allows you to ditch zucker, keep a 5M player on the third line with Benson and 3C and see whether you can use Savoie, Kulich, Benson or Rakell in that second line position.
It's an idea. Not a great one, but one that is more positive than right now.

A little news from Development Camp, Sabres 2021 third-round pick Russian winger Stiven Sardarian is still looking for a college team to play for after entering the transfer portal from New Hampshire. He committed to Northern Michigan, but their coaches all left, so he de-committed and told me he hopes to find a new team in a week or two. |

I looked at his contract after posting hah.
I don't like the idea of paying him 5 million for 3 years after this season.

And we lost Peca in the process because Adams had to keep his buddy on the bench where he didn’t fit and wasn’t a threat to the meatball |

I dk, Jets got better. Pats got a lot better. Miami stayed the same. We might've taken a step back.
Only time will tell, but it's going to be a dog fight either way. It's ours to lose obviously, but going to be a lot of competition and tougher games this year. Unpopular opinion, we're in the strongest division in football right now. No more wins to count. |

Know this might be beating a dead horse, but I also think Kaliyev would be a perfect addition. He's a defensive forward who can actually help create as well.

If he wasn't getting 10mins a game on the Kings, he'd be a 35-40pt middle 6er IMO. |

The world isn’t ending because we lost peca to the rangers. Lol
Peca is still a very young in his coaching career. He’s not close to nhl level head coaching.
He has ways to go. It’s like the Sabres let go of bill belichick or something 😂 |
