Stamkos is a great player, but to get 8 mill at that age is still shocking. Stamkos might be a different case, but hockey runs into trouble by giving players close of 30 these crazy 7-year contracts.

I've often wondered what the break point would be for his contract to not be the biggest problem on the team. Like at what AAV would he have been an afterthought? I'd say $5m, which would still be an overpay but way more tolerable.

$5m would have been fine. Still an overpay bump $1.5m but tolerable

Especially one with is injury history. Not blaming him, but his body has failed him for a few seasons.

This is precisely what we avoided this offseason. 99/100 times you don't get your money's worth on these 28/29/30 year olds signing 7 year contracts in free agency. JFC look at Chandler Stephenson

Tell me, and slowly this time. What. Is. The. AAV?

Also did Lou have to trade 2 picks to get Duclair at a lower cap hit? I think not.

- blacksheep1

So if we sign Duclair and not trade for Smith, you’re complaining we didn’t trade for smith and signed Duclair. Because of baiting

Tell me I’m wrong I’ve figured you out Thomass

Semantics really. Teams who would otherwise be interested in trading for him probably will not pull the trigger if he doesn't want to be there or straight up refuses to.

Smith was never on my radar. Never did I once want Riley Smith.

(Also Smith was traded to the Penguins for a 3rd at 32 years old. Coming off a worse season where his point totals dipped by 16, Drury paid an extra draft pick, the 5th. and a 2nd round pick. Master class Drury strikes again.)

Duclair is also 5 years younger.

Whatever happens, 3.75 is not as much as 14. At least we learned something today

You're avoiding my question, coward. Would you prefer Reilly Smith for 1 year or Anthony Duclair for 4 years. With all of the cap gymnastics that have to occur for Laf, Shesty, etc upcoming. I just want a name. "Smith for 1" or "Duclair for 4". If you cannot provide this there is no conversation to be had because you don't really want to do anything productive.

Mr. Richard,

I'm sorry. I did not realize you had subpoena power. Under oath, I answer Duclair.

Retention tells me something else will happen (eventually). Other wise there was no need to upset Tom again

Thank you. Now, is it because you truly believe that he makes the team better and won’t make signing laf/shesty/etc an issue? Or is it because you’re still committing to this bit where you act like you think it’s hilarious for the team to (frank) up?

Basically, is your opinion solely hockey related or mental health related?
