They should force him to wear that number.

Though I imagine you might be one of 3 people to buy a Brendan Smith jersey.

Who are the other two? Smith's parents?

I don’t have that power and he has to have violated the site’s code of conduct, which again, to be clear, I don’t make that determination. The moderators do. Trust me, I don’t like the hard work I do in writing the blog to be hi jacked any more than you do.

what I want more than anything is for Reilly Smith to wear #42 because I have a Rangers #42 Smith jersey

and I will gladly wear it again and go to ROOT FOR MY TEAM to win like I always do

I actually think it was one of the more shrewd moves of the day, especially if he’s on the third line eventually (start of season or after the TDL). People will focus on the negatives, but he adds depth scoring and knows what it takes to win it all. If he’s such a locker room cancer, why did he win the seventh man award when he was in Boston?

But he has violated the code of conduct, as Jim has noted. He’s had an account get permanently banned and created a second one. Are the moderators just turning a blind eye to that?

That’s the thing, if there is another move to add a rw for the top line I am fine with it. But if smith is Drury’s answer for the Zib line then will be extremely disappointed

I don’t think it’s the player people are scratching their heads about. It’s how does a guy get traded for a 3rd, regress 16 pts the following season, and then become worth a 2nd and 5th? That’s the head scratcher. And if u want to say 25% retention, it should still have only been a 3rd and 5th. Semantics on the 3rd vs 2nd? I don’t think so. I think it’s a huge mismanagement of assets.

I also don’t think Smith was the type of player we needed.

The answer might be that Drury sucks or that the market conditions changed

I am feeling the same way.

I also want to point out to a bunch of us, myself included at times.

What are we all doing if we can't even find a player or aspect of the team to root for? Even if you don't like the GM or the makeup of the team, what's the point of claiming to be a fan if you can't at least root for some aspect of it.

Right now all I am hoping for at this point is unexpected growth from Kakko(since he's been give up on) and Lafreniere continuing to move into the upper echelon of elite players in this league. I think if those two things can happen and most of the other stuff can stay the same they could be looking at another great season.

If Trouba can get over the attempted trade by the team maybe he too can have a bounce back season.

I think it's people just want to have reasonable Ranger conversations (good and bad) > Tom just wanting to bomb the place

My point is not about yesterday's UFA signings, dollars and terms.

It's the way Drury handled moving 2 veteran players, one of which was his Captain.

He went about it all wrong.

I know you guys are hopeful and are looking at it as a business. I get it.

But hockey is a game of skills, tenacity and hard work.

Nobody is going to convince me that the curent Rangers players are ever going to play hard for Drury again.

This guy has no respect for people, and it is already catching up to him.

He needs to be fired, today.

I don't get it, what are people more mad about, that the Rangers haven't gotten rid of Trouba yet or that they treated Trouba bad?

Fair points on the picks. I’m sure the Pens played a little hardball because they’re trading in division. You also have to factor in that the original trade from Vegas to Pitt was with Vegas’ back against the wall because of the cap gymnastics they were dealing with last summer.

As for the player, I’ll wait to see him play with this roster before I pass judgement. From what I remember in Vegas, he’s a better offensive version of Goodrow (meaning he’s no pushover and plays sound defense). I don’t think he’s “tough” in a fighting sense, but he’s “tough to play against”.

Maybe there is an issue there, I can't say yes or no.

But how about they play for themselves and their pride? If they don't like what Drury is doing, prove him wrong (Trouba).

Also, we don't know exactly how this all went down and what conversations were had. It's all media speculation and conjecture and they love their clicks. How this is all playing out is their dream scenario of endless news and reporting.

Vincent. Again I remind you of Vegas being held up as the model for ruthless, win at all costs management style that everyone was clamoring for their team to emulate. I just don't think that this has a real, material, lasting impact on how the current players play or who decides to sign with the historic, 100 year old, New York Rangers to play in Madison Square Garden in Manhattan. You aren't thinking clearly. FFS man Chicago is terrible AND has a disgusting stain on its franchise and players are signing with them

anyone who says they care about 2nd round picks 5 years from now isn't being real. we are in win now mode. if you think Reilly smith isn't the thing that gets us over the hump, I agree with you. But Reilly Smith in conjunction with hopefully some more moves and some players taking the next step are..... talk to me in 2027 when that pick is used

I do think if they could grab Tarasenko it would be a good move. No assets, just money and term. Whole training camp to gel with the team. I like it.

Which would have to come at the expense of Kakko if Trouba isn't moved. And then GUESS WHAT? Kakko recoups some of these picks people are terribly upset about since we can't add cap.

If things don’t work out by 2027, we’ll most likely be looking to trade players that can fetch us high picks and prospects

But then we’re mad we traded Kakko for picks lol

I think smith has thought me, GMs, especially Drury, can’t win with their fans
