So your contention is that Marner is given a bunch of space because they are taking space away from Matthews and despite that Marner still feeds Matthews the puck so much that he had 69 goals - the most since anyone in 1992?
Just so we're clear - Matthews has a great shot, is excellent with the puck and is a big guy who wins a lot of puck battles. He's also got excellent vision, great hockey sense, and is an insanely good passer as well. Mitch Marner does not possess a great shot, is excellent with the puck, doesn't win a lot of head-to-head puck battles, but does win a lot battles for the puck. He has excellent vision, great hockey sense and is an insanely good passer.
Marner is probably the second most talented player, behind Matthews, to don the Leaf jersey. It's preposterous to me that people want to run him out of town. Max Domi is a great player, but you know what? On the open market Domi isn't fetching more than $5m from the most desperate of teams - but there are teams who would already be willing to pay Marner $12m.
There just isn't a real comparison here. - Monkeypunk
Marner is the first back-to-back 1st team all-star on the Leafs since Tim Horton did it in 1967-68 and 1968-69.
Seriously, why do Leafs fans have to be like this? |

Now do Nylander playing with Matthews over the last 2-3 years. I have not been able to find the stats but the articles suggested they were elite. Top in GF vs GA during the stretch they played together 2 years ago. - jribout
Using the lines tool from Natural Stat Trick, this is Matthews - Marner vs. Matthews - Nylander since 2021 - 2023/24:
Marner and Matthews played in 2008 minutes and were 136GF - 84GA
Nylander and Matthews played in 1026 minutes and were 64GF - 46GA
Flattening this to a /60 for comparative basis:
Marner: 4.1 - 2.5
Nylander: 3.7 - 2.6
Matthews without Nylander: 4.1 - 2.4
Nylander without Matthews: 2.8 - 3
Matthews without Marner: 3.9 - 2.4
Marner without Matthews: 2.8 - 2.1
The Leafs without Matthews or Marner: 2.5 - 2.5
The Leafs without Matthews or Nylander: 2.4 - 2.2

Mitchell Marner has 16 goals, 48 assists and a plus-minus of +16 in 54 games without Auston Matthews in his career. - Atomic Wedgie
I tried to use that site but it isn't playing on another line than Matthews, that appears to be games in which Matthews was out injured. I would love to see Marner and Mathews on the same line vs Willie and Matthews on the same line over the last 2-3 years (I read less goals for Matthews but more points) |

I’m not trying to ‘flex’. I’m just throwing out numbers. No math involved man. I’m just saying 34 would still be the best scorer in the league and still super star where Mitch would be a good winger. - Big23Questions
You’re not throwing out numbers.
You’re throwing out an opinion without any numbers to back it up.
I’m throwing out numbers which directly refute your opinion.
Mine is also an opinion, to be sure. But I’m involving math. |

You're a Detroit fan pissing in a Leaf board and have been for months.
Mitch Marner did a lot of that without Matthews as his winger, but you'll ignore that. Godsakes everyone - Bert and Domi were with Matthews for like 45 days. They gave up a (frank)ton of goals but scored a bunch more. That is an even less sustainable style of hockey in the playoffs than the one everyone wants to change by someone trading Marner.
By the way that's not even (frank)ing analytics you twat. Those are basic hockey stats.
That ^^ is math which you and I both learned in grade 6. - Monkeypunk
Man why are you swearing at me and name calling? Grow up young man. What are you on about with analytics? Basic hockey stats? Basic hockey understanding is that:
- Mitch is a great offensive talent.
- He benefits from playing with 34.
- He is a great PKer and poor with the puck at 5v5. -
- He is weak and soft and gets outmuscled and curves plays to the detriment of the team most of the time but it looks awesome when it works.
Those are my points on Mitch.
I’m missing in a Leafs board for months? What have I been pissing about? If it’s been for months I’m sore you have a ton of examples you can provide eh?
Plug in all your geek stats and let me know who wins the Cup algorithm. You have no fee for the game and spew stats and numbers. Put the calculator down and watch the game. Christ man. I chirped AA for going off on the Willy/Mitch thing. You always appeared to me as a mature guy who disagreed but didn’t act like this. Clearly you had a bone to pick with me. Next time don’t lower yourself to name calling and vulgarity bud.

How did he do career wise without playing with 34? Such a small sample is misleading.
If a player plays 5 NHL games and winds up putting up 3 pts that’s a heck of a clip. Sustainable probably not. |

You guys are obsessed with this.
You’re not going to uncover the lost city of El Dorado running numbers.
Both are very good offensive players (Mitch is better tho)
Only Mitch is a very good defensive player |

To me, this is the best comparison to refute his argument.
If you look at stats when Marner is playing on a different line than Matthews, one can argue that Marner’s numbers are inflated because he is facing lesser competition.

I'd bet 3 McDoubles that Marner plays with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. My Kool Aid dream - which feels very real - is that Berube will have not only Marner but the team playing on another level. This is a turning point coaching change as Berube had in St. Louis and there are many other examples of a team breaking through after a change in coach. This is one of those teams. |

That Marner is a good player. Your over the top comments, and number of comments annoy a lot of posters on hear and you appear to take great pride in it. You cannot go a month being normal. If it is quiet in here you post something like the
Mitch! Mitch! Mitch! Mitch! etc
No reason to do that but to be annoying as (frank) and get the attention you crave.
