Not far behind. Drury just has to be able to prove he can make the right moves at the tdl. He’s made some good moves and some real bad ones. Going into the season as is they will be good but have work to do
- nyrangers2

At the absolute minimum, besides signing Lindgren and Schneider, a depth defenseman needs to be added. So we can look forward to that. Buuuuut i still think Drury understands he can't just do that if he is interested in not starting the season on the hot seat. Maybe a warm seat, but it won't be scalding hot.

You didn’t say this?…

“This might be the least interested I’ve been in a season coming up since the late 90s. You just know without watching they have zero shot to win a cup. Literally zero

- Slimtj100

Already addressed that. It was in context to the brooks article of them running it back. Regardless I own I said that as I still said it

People also forget that his wife who is now the "cause" of these problems, was also the reason that he wanted to come here in the first place. We can debates whether that trade/signing was a mistake from the beginning but I think most of us were pretty happy when he was brought over and appreciated the fact that he and his wife wanted to be here.

Holding that against him/her at this point is ridiculous. He's trying to do what's best for his family and Drury is trying to do what's best for the team. These are professionals and this situation is not exclusive to the rangers or Drury. Whatever ends up happening, I highly doubt the room is "ruined" and I also doubt that Trouba would sit out and forego $6M in salary just because he is traded

- SkjeiStadium

it would have been really nice just to try to have these rationale conversations about the situation, which is why its so damn frustrating around here

I've seen two main complaints about how Drury handled the Trouba situation

one, he disprespected Trouba and has "ruined the room"

the other is that not getting rid of Trouba fast enough blew the oppportunity to add free agents July 1st

these are mutually exclusive sentiments

anytime anyone has brought one of these up, Tom has been like YES!!!

he's just a richard

- jimbro83

Yet both are true. I can provide phot proof that I did not blame Drury for Trouba's contract or his NTC. Just say when, and I'll be your huckleberry.

The Rangers are currently tied for the 7th best odds to win the Cup, according to FanDuel. The teams with better odds are:

Panthers, Oilers, Stars, Devils, Avs, and Hurricanes

I disagree with at least three of these

- NYR11

Crazy to me that the Devils are there. Hurricanes took a step backwards too. I wouldn't find it all that crazy if the Panthers, Oilers, Stars and Avs were all ahead of the Rangers, but at this point (almost a year away from the 2025 cup) just being towards the top of the list shows that people that aren't disgruntled rangers fans still look at them as a top tier team

THE ONLY issue i would have with anybody involved in this saga at this moment (meaning forget about the original trade and signing. just where we currently are) is if it's true that Trouba has made it clear that if he was traded to a team that is not on his no trade list that he wouldn't report. Manipulating his no trade list to make it as hard as possible to trade him is well within his rights and I respect it, even if i want his ass gone. Sabotaging trade talks with legitimate suitors by threatening to breach his contract is excessive and petty. I say this fully understanding that his wife's career is important to him and that he has a newborn and all of that. I'm pro labor all the (frank)ing way. Exercise your rights bro. But you signed a contract to make $8m a year and the contract has clauses.

I agree with that, but at the same time he'd be forfeiting $6M by sitting out next year. I'm not sure what that would do to the final year of his deal but he'd be potentially forfeiting $12M.

It would also be grounds to terminate his contract. So for all the people that want trouba gone and his salary off the books, you should be hoping that he is traded somewhere he doesn't want to go, doesn't report and we'd be off the hook for his cap hit for the next 2 years without giving up any assets or retaining salary

Tom and Brukie do not bother me as this is an internet blog, but I would not categorize my self as the same type of poster as them. I do not stir the pot with negativity all the time. I try to offer up insights, praise, and female dog at the same time

There was a specific reason I wanted Marchessault, it was his production at even strength. Its not like were FAR off, but there are specific spots that need to be addressed.

The problem is the manner in which Drury went about his business. He didnt have to do it the second the buyout window opened, and didnt have to jump on Trouba for his list a week before FA opened.

Now on top of the issues that still havent really been addressed, we may have an unknown locker room issue as a result.

- aecliptic

Reilly Smith has scored 0.61 points per game through his 800ish game career. Of those, 74.3% have come at even strength (according to Statmuse.com).
Just because Drury doesn't make exactly the moves you guys call for, at exactly the time you want, doesn't mean he doesn't have a plan, or isn't addressing what needs to be done.

I mean I can have the rational version if you want.

Drury is NOT at fault for Trouba exercising his 15 team NTC. That's a fact. Gorton made the mess of that giving into Trouba and his agent.

Trouba is at fault for holding the Rangers hostage to the other 15 teams that could potentially make a deal. (I refuse to blame his wife, if his wife is the casue of this, the Rangers are weaker than we all know.)

Drury is at fault for making Trouba the captain and giving him (Trouba) power and responsibility he clearly didn't deserve.

Drury's mess of this now is his fault. That just the reality of where they are.

It’s a false choice. You don’t have to care about his family or else blame him and his family. Sometimes poop just doesn’t go your way and it’s not someone’s fault. Unless he’s refusing to report like I mentioned

Trouba's been a fine captain

he's played well, for the most part, was terrible in this year's playoffs, never been worth 8 million a year

they need to move him out for cap reasons

That’s the point though. No team will trade for him if they think he won’t report. What he loses monetarily is irrelevant here because the trade just won’t happen with that looming over it. Who even knows if that’s really something he’s threatened though

I think if a team wants him and Drury gives them a good price, they will call his bluff on not reporting. It may impact the return slightly but I can't see it actually stopping them from finding a suitor. He would be essentially retiring at 30 years old, not only giving up the $12M left on his deal but also whatever his next contract will be

he's the one who said it was a done deal
