In other words, everything is a risk? Picking Michkov was not a risk. It was an easy pick to make. The Flyers got a gift from the gods when he fell to 7. They got a gift when Buium fell. They returned the gift.
- MJL

I think its clear that if there was no risk with Michkov, he would have gone 1 or 2 overall. But I agree it was a gift that Michkov fell, and it was a gift that Buium fell also. However apparently the Flyers scouts had Buium and Luchenko even and Briere went with the center. I think this year was not the same as 2017 when the scouts wanted Hiskanen but Hextall chose Patrick because the org at that time also needed a center. It didn't work out in 2017, I hope it does this time. These are the decisions a GM makes that either cements them in their role or gets them fired.

Is Johansen's "injury" behind him for him to be declared healhy for camp? If not, why are the Flyers not crying foul with the league
- Bayareaflyer

Not crying foul because they want that 1st round pick. But, the Flyers should attempt to put him on LTIR because as I understand it, then the league gets involved to verify it. Flyers can invite league doctors to check him out and if he’s lying, they should have grounds to void his contract.

I think Bob Murray, the GM at the time that drafted Drysdale, had a big influence in the decision to make the trade. The Flyers could have waited but I think they felt a lot of pressure to get this done quickly before it came out.

My comment was that it was a not a risk for the Flyers. What you failed to understand is that the Flyers were picking 7th. If you're picking say in the top 3, then that may give you pause because there are other top ranked potential elite players available. As the draft goes on, the available rated talent level drops. If a potential elite player drops to you at 7. Easy pick to make. You and others gave way too much credence to the risk of him coming over. I never believed that was an issue. Hextall drafted BPA. He did not choose Patrick over Heiskanen because he was a center. He drafted Patrick because he felt he was the best player.
It may work out but Briere's reasoning for choosing Luchanko over Buium is badly flawed.

Everyone has different tastes, but my taste palate has never failed me. I got a full ride to Johnson & Wales when I was young, and as you know from your notes I chose computer science over food, but one of my biggest strengths have always been attune to spotting flavors and texture.

I can tell from the picture you prefer overcooked foods.

- Glak18

I had to look up the relevance of Johnson and Wales to this discussion.

I don't prefer overcooked foods. I like sashimi, beef tartare, ceviche, and my steaks are often ordered rare (because in the US except for very expensive places, if you say medium rare (my preference), they will be medium very often).

Do you order your cheesesteaks according to 'doneness' of the meat? That's a new one (Wiz! Wit! Medium rare!). Ha ha.

What makes the cheesteak in Angelos different are several things. The bread is Sarcones inspired but baked fresh in house every morning and tends to be a bit crustier on the outside and a bit more crunchy overall in texture. The Cooper Sharp soaks up the inside, the contrast of textures is very apparent. And they always have good ribeye.

The best cheesteak in the city, by far, is Angelo's:

And in case you start caterwauling about the mushrooms:

I wouldn’t take my chances with eating any beef, in a cheesesteak shop, that wasn’t throughly cooked. Food poisoning sucks. Besides, part of what makes cheesesteaks good is that fatty meat being sliced thin and cooked at a high temp to get a maximum amount of surface area deliciously browned. Maillard reaction; right Johnson and Wales? There’s plenty of fat in that meat to keep it juicy. Sharp cheddar sounds good, but honestly wiz or American or sharp provolone would be fine with me too.

Michkov is a RW and so is Brink. Brink has to play in the top 9, otherwise it makes no sense to have in on the team. Right now the Flyers have too many RWs. I have to think some trades are in the works for Flyer wingers not named Michkov, and I just can't see the Flyers coming back next season with Deslauriers, given he hardly played the 2nd half of last season.
- jd250

Glad you were able to crack the code on my post….

Yes. We have too many Right Wingers, which was in fact my point…,

No the Flyers....I have never seen them lose live. Out on the west coast, you get 1 game a year....I am 22-0-1(tie 2-2 vs Edmonton, Adam Burt scored the game tying goal in the third) seeing them live.

Playing against Vancouver...it's going to be a tough game...I just hope they show up and play a good game, as this is costing me a grand to take them.

I don't think Hayes meant anything detrimental the Learnard, only to take his time and develop properly. Playing another season for a top program like BC is not going to hurt Leonard, but allow him to develop more and be ready for the NHL. Past a 2nd season however and I would then say something is wrong. Anyway, I think this situation is very different than the quitter situation, where Quitter went back to BC for a 2nd season just to stick it to the Flyers and make them trade him.

Such complete and utter bullshlt. Why do you continue to do this?
