1. Buffalo Sabres
Previous Ranking: 1

Top Five Prospects: Jiri Kulich, Noah Östlund, Matthew Savoie, Devon Levi, Isak Rosen

The Buffalo Sabres are the envy of the league at this point, with an embarrassment of riches on their NHL roster with guys like Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power holding down the fort on the backend and both Tage Thompson and Dylan Cozens looking like excellent top-six centermen for the next decade. They have already seen many great prospects graduate into big NHL roles and they still have the best group of prospects in the league for my money.

After having some time to take it all in I dont hate what adams has done so far. The forward group will be faster top to bottom now with some more hustle and they desperately needed that

Feeling OK about the offseason so far doesn't mean he gets a pat on the back for rebuilding the 4th line though, as it should have been done last year or 2 years ago. No doubt a 2nd round pick for what appears to be a replacement level 4th liner is bad value but if it works it doesn't matter

I think McLeod will be a nice fit here and I like this move. Again, I dont think it matters but I agree that adams lost value in this trade. It was predictable though, he waited far too long to deal any of the prospects

If adams lands a top 6 forward i would be willing to say the sabres won the offseason, a far cry from last years disaster

Slow to react describes Adams well.

Looking up team goals scores and team goals allowed, if the Sabres allow 240 again (fair based on defensive improvement but not ridiculous goaltending hot stretch), they'd need to score 260 to be a +20 on the season.

That's usually a playoff team differential.

Based on each player on the roster's goals scored from last season only, they'd be at just over 220.

Can they find 40 goals from the group of Tage, Tuch, Quinn, Cozens and Benson?

Is 8 extra per man too much to ask?

That accounts for no improvement from anyone else, nor any regression either.

It's doable, but it won't be easy.

been enjoying that metaphor lately with this trade. A lot more than meets the eye.

Otherwise you have: 3rd line 30 point C for 2022 9th Overall top 6 prospect

Me too, this is why the McLeod trade makes me happy.

I watched pretty much all of the oilers playoff games and thought many times how good McLeod would be on the Sabres, including playing a Lindy style.

Here is a list of best 20 year old seasons in WHL history. Most are older years, but how many of these names do you even know?

Kelly Kisio, Tyler Johnson, Adam Morrison, Bryan Bosch?, Vicky Gervais though he might have been on tv.

Well I think his trade back screwed up another trade and then he doubled up and used a 2nd rnd pick on a player he probably could have gotten for one of our 4ths or waivers.
- Buff36

(shrug) maybe he screwed up another trade? Again, we don't know, and for all we know, maybe he wasn't shot in the arse with that trade. He had to known prices on draft night.

that is what is so odd about this offseason. Roles have reversed and people like me are saying "hit the gas" and others are trying to put on brakes.

I understand the irritation of trading a Savoie. There are probably good reasons why guys like Kulich and Wahlberg are worth more.

The not knowing the final result is a tough pill.

I could see it if I thought Savoie had a legit chance to be a top line player. I just don't see that. I mean, he could, but that is extremely unlikely. He is a really nice prospect, but I think to be an elite prospect, you need to have something exceptional about you. He is fast and has good hands.

The fascination with draft position (or worse, pre-draft rankings) is mind-numbing. We just saw Savoie passed in the prospect pool by the last two #1 picks, and even last year's second round pick.

Wait...

You think Wahlberg >>> Savoie?

That would be quiet something. I do love Wally, but I would say that's a pretty wild take personally. Wahlberg is going to be a fine bottom6 player one day, Savoie still has the chance to be a top6 guy (and sooner).

I believe Savoie is seen as a 55 point middle six winger, which can be had for (pulls up the Buchnevich trade) about nothing

If he's one dimensional, 55 point guy, Jeff Skinner just signed for 3 million kangaroos

I have been team "hit the gas" for two years and am still team "hit the gas." Trade all of the can't miss prospects for Brady Tkachuk and I will buy season tickets
