Maybe the polite way to put this is they bought high and sold low.
I'm surprised how ardent a few are defending the value of this trade. I expected more of "it's OK to overpay". - Lunaion
Completely fair.
Tbh, I'm just tired of selling low. Outside Eichel and Mitts (who still didn't garner a great return), most of the guys we traded were at all time low values. |

What does Nylander have anything to do with this - Buff36
my guess is an early first round player was traded for a player picked in the later part of the first round
in this case, an early first round pick for a player picked in 2nd rd

we traded 1 prospect for 2 guys, player and a prospect
IMO we need to be trading 2 parts for 1 better part |

He was a top 10 pick.
You don’t trade top 10 picks for anything outside of a top player, has been the sentiment
Savoie could be really good. Who knows
McLeod is already very good.
Maybe they should have traded Savoie for Henrique, I mean Henrique’s better after all. |

Nylander was hands down the most prolific goal scorer in the entire draft that year…. |

I know I share this opinion with others but right now you've taken away the offense of Mitts and Skinner and added Zucker and McLeod. You're betting on more from the rest of the top 6. This is not a year they should be betting (frank)ing anything. Use Krebs to get Zegras. He can be your fill in center with real offense.

Yes and he was ranked around 7th or 8th with a Questionable work ethic.
Savoie was ranked anywhere from 3,4,5 some had him at 6. |

that guy was red flagged hard leading up to the draft. And when it's not a goal scorer that's being flagged, you have a big problem for top 10 guys.

Agree 100%. It was a desperation move. That being said, what was best for the franchise isn't always going to be the best for a GM on the hot seat. That's all.
We can be happy we brought in a player of need, not about the cost of doing so. That is a glaringly bad trade. We need to hope Savoie completely busts out in order to win this one IMO. - QuinnFan
Savoie could win the Calder and the Cup this year and I won't care as long as the Sabres make the playoffs and McLeod is an important part of that. Savoie wasn't going to win any awards here with us this year but he might with Edmonton |

Isn't Eichel the ultimate sell low trade?
The top 6 killed this team last year, not the bottom 6. Right now, they are betting everything on Lindy figuring that out.

My thoughts exactly.
Let’s all talk about making the playoffs and not retaining the value of non-nhl assets |

I keep hearing how McLeod was a fourth line player. Where do people think Savoie is going to slot in that lineup?

I have a feeling that a strong bottom 6 will allow the top 6 to produce more.
In game adjustments and just Lindy in general should get more production out of the top 6 and fix the PP |

We already beat this to death. It was not in any way a "desperation move". He saw the market and thought that it was a worthwhile trade. Again, it is a seller's market right now. If you want to shop, its going to cost you.

What if McLeod dopes his shut down magic and helps the team trim 30 goals against next season? And he adds 10 - 15 goals. Net 45 goals while not totally attributed to him but a positive result that benefits the TEAM. I think it is short sighted to assume that only goals added by the player matter.
Another thought I was having, again what do I know, let's move McLeod out of the offensive shadow that is McJesus and Draisatl, does the new environment improve his production?
Gosh, it almost seems like they should play some games.

7th in forward ice time in the playoffs, 5v5. 5th in total ice time.

I think that a trade for Zegras, even when we significantly overpay, should make everyone feel better about all of the moves made this offseason.
This will be the first roster built in a LONG time that was constructed with an identity from top to bottom that matches the coach.
If we get Zegras, and we are playing well by December I bet all of us here are all drinking egg nog and singing carols and laughing about all this discussion |

Looks at who he was traded for…..oh. |
