No retention you'd be looking at the first I think. Can we fit that next year?...

Damn Capitals taking down cap friendly. I dont like these other sites.

Still trying to figure out how to navigate Puckpedia (screw you Washington)

It's possible but not ideal, would probably have to move Clifton next off season to make it work, plus the Skinner buyout, and go with Johnson and hopefully the Russian kid is ready

And this is the problem with no continuity.

The sabres were a really slow team last year. You can't just decide to be the fastest team. They drafted Quinn over faster players, Benson over faster players. Owen Power. Speed was not a priority building this core. You can't change that with some new bottom six forwards.

Then in two years when KA and Ruff are gone, the new clown will all be about some new type of player. This is the endless rebuild cycle.

Granato should never have had personnel input. Neither frankly should Ruff. Where else were these guys going to go? It's still an NHL job (sort of) and the wouldn't have had many other options.

The nhl for the last 5 years is based on speed and skill. That won’t change for awhile.

If you watched playoffs. Games were like a high speed track meet. End to end.

Last years Sabres had no shot in hell at looking that fast.

Okposo skinner greenway attempting to lug the puck up the ice was hilarious at times

The LOG Line were possession merchants. Once they got the puck, they did an excellent job of protecting it. While nothing would come of their efforts in the form of scoring chances, they were low-event minute-eaters used to suppress opposing scoring lines.

They achieved their success in this area without being a particularly physical trio. None of them were especially fast either, aside from Girgensons who, as previously mentioned, is an above-average skater.

Aube-Kubel is also the only member of the prospective fourth line who has a history of strong defensive metrics. Malenstyn’s rookie numbers last season were less than inspiring, and Lafferty has been inconsistent (though largely average or slightly above) year-over-year.

So, it lends to reason that this triad won’t be as proficient at suppressing chances-against. That being said, the hope is likely that they’ll leverage their collective puck-retrieval ability, speed, and physicality to flip the ice and maintain possession (while also physically wearing down opposing skill players).

So, let's look at independent effort and immediately apply it to how they will work together, without working together. Sounds reasonable.

Generally speaking it’s pretty easy to move contracts. Just will cost you.

I think the 2 or 3 cap dumps this summer were

2nd + cap dump for “futures”

Yes they were. They had speed and skill and the most depth in the nhl.

Their 4th line was used very very sparing.

The other 3 lines were fast and skilled

They weren’t your pat maroons or Ryan reeves you wanted

He's not good,, but what if he came with something worth while?

Say Joker for Trouba and a 1st?

Trouba only has 2 years left, maybe the Rangers retain a bit?

- Stripes77

trouba is an upgrade over joker or clifton and faster

Skill very much so, don't think there a very fast Team. There a Heavy puck pressure Team that wears you down and attacks of your Mistakes.

Cut down his minutes a bit, play him on your PK. And he will allow Power the freedom to learn and play Hockey. Especially if you can get them to retain 2 or 3mill.

If you can fit that cap I think id prefer a first with him. If the cap is tight then retention is a must.

I dont think hes as horrible as some say. Agree he would look nice next to power.

Sure, I was just thinking Pegula might like that he's owed less in actual Cash the last 2 years than his Cap hit. Get it down a few mill and he's really making 3 or 4 mill.

You need speed to do that and get onto pucks in the offensive zone

Definitely helps, but they did it all over the ice. And smart dump ins and the way they entered the zone did more for there forecheck than there Speed

I think the panthers strict adherence to north/south forecheck hockey made them look much faster then they actually are, but they are still well above average team speed
