Not a market for Murphy with his back and sports hernia and he's not gonna play a lot of games.
We've discussed the complications with moving Jones a lot.
Like I've said a few times. If Murphy, Brodie and Martinez are all in the lineup at the same time something has gone wrong.
If push comes to shove they'll either waive, buyout or run Murphy or Brodie as a 7th defenseman. - fattybeef
Not necessarily, of the young defensemen only Vlasic looks ready to stay up. Korchinski isn’t ready yet, he has some things to work on. Del Mastro, Phillips, Kaiser and Allen haven’t demonstrated they’re ready to play in the bigs full time. Hopefully a couple of them are promoted and stick but I only see one guy who’s ready with his game and physically and that’s Del Mastro and even he may require additional seasoning.

Brodie dressed for 78 regular season games - producing 1G-25A offensively and a (+17) rating defensively. He averaged 22:00 TOI. Almost all of his ice time came at even strength and the penalty kill. He's not overly physical (41hits) but does get in the lane to block shots (159 shot blocks).
It's hard to put in words what happened to Brodie's game in the back end of the season. His detail wandered. His execution making plays with the puck was inconsistent. He simply struggled. His poor play kept him from earning a regular role in playoffs. Brodie only dressed for one game vs Boston.
2-way 'D' who's lost a step.
Expiring contract that earned him $5.0M last season. Pending UFA.
Doesn't appear much bette than Tinordi, Meygna, Zaitsev to me. - LAHawk
It was mentioned is father passed away that could be one factor. It's just what I read but not confirmed. |

How is a guy who averaged nearly 20 mins a night not ready?
That is ridiculous. If he poops the bed in camp and looks like ass the first 5 games ok fine send him down or whatever but if he looks bigger, faster and more confident - which he probably will with better players to give the puck to and a competent partner - there isn't a reason.
Korch was definitely better than Del Mastro and it should be his position to lose not an assumption that he'll end up in the minors because reasons. |

Interesting article by Banford about "winning" and "losing" trades. Post Mortem, did the Hawks really lose the Jones trade
https://www.bleachernatio...nning-and-losing-a-trade/
One problem with the analysis is that Columbus got a second first round pick (David Jiriceck) in the trade also. - LAHawk
That 22' draft class has already been interesting so far.
I remember hearing that Jiricek (6) was unhappy with his ice time last year at CBJ.
Time will tell, but Slafkovsky (1) and Wright (4) haven't lived up to their billing.
Both Gauthier (5) and McGroarty (14) unhappy with the teams that drafted them with Gauthier already traded.
Both Savoie (9) and Geekie (11) were traded in the past few weeks.
KK (7), Nazar (13) and Rinzel (25) haven't been problematic and might be good picks given the situation of a lot of the other 22' 1st round picks. |

KK may make it, but he still needs work, lots of it. His passing was best on the team amongst defensemen. While his defensive game improved over the course of the season, he’s not great defensively. Korchinski is physically weak and was, more often than not, unable to gain positioning or separate opponents from the puck. How many times did he have a step on a forward going into the corner and not gain possession? I think signing Martinez and Brodie are the insurance in the event Korchinski, Kaiser, Del Mastro or another young defender has to be spotted or go down.

Slafkovsky only one full NHL season so far and he put up 20 and 30 so thats pretty decent. We'll see this year what he does.
Wright will be interesting this year. |

lol ok so were basically saying the same thing. Old guys are there to spell each other, be better than Tinordi and manga and if the kids take a big dip they can fill in while they figure their lives out. |

You're right Fatty, 20 and 30 aren't that bad for a 20-year old, especially with a power-forward build.
I wonder if the lotto balls fell a different way, who the Hawks would've taken. We definitely wouldn't have Bedard so everything worked out well. |

Kinda hard to say anyone from the 22 draft class hasn't lived up to their billing. Most have barely made it to the NHL, and it normally takes a couple years to get acclimated to big boy hockey.

The deficiencies in kk game can be said about all of the dmen last year, including jones. |

The more I watch TT highlights and read about his time in CAR, the more I think he's one of the best wingers the Hawks could have signed for Bedard. A high skill player, who is a bit smaller, but has learned to play very well defensively. |

I criticized that 2nd pick being top 2 protected when the trade was made. Like WTF Stan, never heard of top 10 protected? But then I realized that made it practically ensured the 2022 pick went to CBJ and the 2023 pick would be Chicago's which as much of a longshot as it was, turned out to be Bedard. Good thinking Stan!

Still a number of teams (EDM, OTT, PITT, COL, NYI) that don't have a full roster and are quite close to, if not over, the cap. A couple teams still need to sign RFA's as well.
There should be some movement coming up before the season. |

Edmonton will be moving players one of these days. I'll give them a 3rd and Phillips for Draisaitl. |

Always a market for D come trade deadline. Of Murphy is playing come the deadline there will be a healthy market for his services. |

I’d give them a 2nd and Phillips for Ceci if they include Holloway. |

Out of those teams which rfa's could the Hawks target? Even though their roster is pretty much set there is always ways to improve now and for the future imo. Holloway from Edmonton I would offersheet 3 x 3 you give up a 2nd rounders but I think it would be worth it. |
