I honestly thought krebs showed more grit than most of our forwards
- homiedclown

It was a joke, grit is nice. Obviously not a player that can lift his line yet. Give him Zucker and Kulich and put McLeod with Cozens.

Benson has a good shot to break 40-45 points, so he's at least in the ballpark. Zucker, I hear ya, just more the state of things. It's why, if a top6 winger is beyond Adams, I wouldn't mind getting someone who can be another 2nd - 3rd line tweener. Think he's really getting slept on due to SJ's wonderkids coming in.
- QuinnFan

For this coming year. If my job is on the line. I am not banking on Benson to hit 50+ points.

I rather get a guaranteed good player

I think any Kim jokes need to stop. She looks like she in rough shape. Very sad to see

What was Adams honestly thinking the last two years then?
- washedup20

the previous two seasons? Summer 22 was figuring out 'who he had' and player development. Summer of 23 was, right or wrong, running it back thinking they'd be fine with the additions of Levi, Clifton and EJ, which holy (frank).

if the rumor that mcleod may be playing wing on the top 6 is legit

zucker-krebs-kulich/benson

this would mean a probably quinn injury and greenway buried on the 4th line

I do not see a path for this though

- homiedclown

what is this rumor you speak of

I'm curious, if the McLeod for Savioe trade is so horrendous because Savioe is worth more than a 3rd line center, which one of the current Sabres top six would have equal value in a trade for Savioe (i.e., Peterka, Tage, tuch, Quinn, Cozens, or Benson)? I'm never trading an established top six NHL player (that's not over-the-hill) for a prospect that may turn into a top six NHLer. Maybe a team with cap issues does that trade because the 2nd line player has a bad contract (i.e., Skinner type). To get a top six player like Necas or Zegras, then at a minimum its Benson, Savioe, and a 1st. Now I understand the complaint that we should have packaged him to get a top six player, but Savioe by himself only gets you a young established 3rd line NHL player IMO.
- BuffaloHerd

Tough to say there with such limited options. I would say his value was closer to that of Tuch, largely due to contract status, than it is to McLeod. I don't think Benson, Savoie and a 1st would be the ask for a guy like Necas or Zegras either, personally.

My biggest issue with the trade though is they sold low. With Savoie even in Rochester, succeeding, you likely get more in return. We essentially sold him at his lowest valuable possible for a guy that, in my eyes, is about as good as he's going to be. It's still a toss up though. Savoie still has the chance to completely bust, where McLeod doesn't. So I get some of where you're coming from. He also has the chance to end playing on McDavid's line and getting more points than anyone on the Sabres in a couple years. The reality will likely be somewhere between those points. I just think it was awful asset management and yet another reason why we won't see a historic climb like New Jersey did or Colorado had a few years ago. Players of his status shouldn't ever be traded for 3rd liners.

We have the luxury of approaching this from the perspective of someone trying to improve the franchise, rather than save a job. If we're only basing the return on if it helps us more this year, it's an obvious win. Martin Erat helped WSH more that year than Forsberg would've...doesn't make it less of a terrible trade.

before this season, krebs shooting percentage was close to 13 percent with the sabres for 122 nhl games

if he reverts back to those numbers is he still dog crap?

No.

Well like I said earlier. I would absolutely take a shot on him. He doesn't have the skill set the Sabres want to play that specific position.

I want him here to challenge Krebs. And personally I'd like to use Krebs to get someone else, TB or otherwise. But if I'm using Krebs, I'd like someone here at the end of the day that can play bottom 9 center.

- TheSabresTaco

That's fair, so more of a schematic fit. Apologies, I thought it was more about it being McLeod's position and that spot being taken. We should be up for upgrading in any way possible so more bucking on my misperception there.

How does one sell a player low if said player has virtually no NHL experience

this should be 32 teams' mantra. variable difficulty in who you are seeking aside.

Because if said player had any experience, their value would rise. I think even 1 year in the AHL, which he likely gets NHL games, but even with that I think you can get a lot more.

I hear ya, it just doesn't seem to be ours at this time. Between the cap space and our inability to acquire high impact players to the idea we're done for the offseason, it does seem as though they're satisfied being a fringe playoff team. That's 99% of my issue with Adams. He spends big assets for mediocre players. Beck Malenstyn is not the answer. #43 overall could have been eventually.

but what we need to ask ourselves is, why did his value decrease? why was kevyn willing to use him over everyone else, including 11 or 14?

his justification was along the lines of 'sometimes the players you want are more expensive than you like'. id have a tough time justifying that one. perhaps he was in demand. perhaps he was more valuable to the caps than his ability indicates. i dont know.

the 2nd rounder could be peterka or mccabe. could also be karabacek or davidsson. so, i dunno.

how would people feel if we traded down 3 spots for malenstyn? better or worse? keep in mind, do not use hindsight of how the draft fell, and how scouts believed the tier between around 7-20 was more or less the same abled player.

either savoie was a bad draft pick or adams overpaid big time for mcleod

we will find out in 24 months

- homiedclown

What current prospect (that was not a top five pick) are you willing to trade Cozens for?

The players drafted 6-15 in this years draft are not getting a good top six NHL player, and it does mean they are bad draft picks.

The reasoning is not much different than you not loaning me $1000 if I told you I pay you back $1000 in a year or two, but you would probably consider a loan if I said I'll pay you back $1500 in a year or two.

Until a prospect (other than generational first overall picks) play a season in the NHL there will some required interest charged when trading for an established NHL player.

Whether Savoie was a bad draft pick is a different matter, TBD.

The other 5 players drafted are all similar in play style - Adams lowered the value regardless of production/potential of the player.

consider this. buium was universally mocked in the top 10.. probably 7 or 8. So what happened?

them moving down three spots, I have significant doubt they wanted him, or they'd take their chances on draft night. they talked up and down about how they'd land a player they like regardless because of how many players were in that tier.

and, they didnt give out the gratuitous "we never thought he'd fall to us" announcement

if you believe the organization as a whole can't evaluate the difference between a rock and a rooster, then sure i guess.
