Sure, until this line hits the ice for game 1 and gets the living poop kicked out of them.

That line makes the top6 look tough.

"It's 2024 not 1982, get with it"

Seriously, I would love that line tenacious, strong 200 ft game from each, with offensive upside.

They would become fan favorites in no time.

What was Lindy's record in NJ, with a team focused on talent?

When Fitzgerald took the muscle out of the lineup, they went from a 2nd round playoff team to a bottom of the league team.

Lindy's system relies on toughness to open the ice for the talent, it's always been that way.

So not having a Goalie and having your best Dman does't matter?

As long as you enjoy losing, they would be great.

Every team deals with injuries. The team was significantly worse without the muscle protecting the kids.

Thanks for letting my champion the kid. But we accept you as the orignal.

I can't understand Byram yet. He has all the tools. He certainly showed flashes last year in a small sample. Am I right to think of him as being a big risk/reward type? I feel like he could develop into a great defenseman or just be a defensive liability forever, no in between. Fair or false?

- QuinnFan

I think that's a Fair assessment, he'll likely end up somewhere between Makar and Bryson but at this point no one knows exactly where? The hope is he's much closer to Makar, and that's why you take a chance on him because you only get those type of players before they reach that level, as they are rarely traded once they achieve it.

That’s the question.
- Jet Jaguar BD

At least he has SJ potential I guess. But that's kind of what I mean with this kid, he's either going to be really productive and helpful or a defensive liability that can't make up for those short comings, which would completely ruin his value to us.

Well put. A gamble, but probably a good gamble, as you can't get that type of impact defender for less than a king's ransom or after they're over the hill.

For any Jeff Marek or 32 Thoughts fans out there, he was poopcanned after round 1 of the draft for sharing draft picks with a friend prior to those picks being made.

Nevada Gambling Board had some concerns despite it being impossible for financial gain by either Marek or the friend. But since the NHL is in the gambling game now, it put them in a tough position. Sportsnet has rights to produce NHL content and when the boss tells you to fire someone, well ... See ya. What a shame.

More here.

Marek looked like a fookin tool with those glasses at the draft anyway

if helenius and kulich/rosen wow them and benson is meh at camp

can benson go to rochester?

- homiedclown

Yes. I just read 160 games or 5 nhl years.

However, Benson is a Lindy type player. So if you goes hard, no way he is sent down.

I agree with waiting 5-10 games and then maybe moving a forward that is not in long term plans.

If the group isn't meshing, or the results aren't what Adams and co are expecting, does Adams wait out the season again to make adjustments?

What is Adams best in season trade, how long would it take him to complete it?

I'd say with a team 0.890 SV% for the season, Goalie was their biggest problem.
I'd say losing #1 D for 61 games, #2 Dman for 25 games was extremely problematic.
The physicality was an influencer, not the root cause. Keeping the puck out of the net was the root cause.

I'm not arguing those weren't issues, Ruff couldn't get the team to find ways to win. The Sabres will deal with injuries this coming season as well.

The first significant move of the offseason was resigning Kurtis MacDermid to a three-year contract who they traded for in February due to the obvious need.

Then hired a new coach.

Then traded for a goalie.

Then signed an additional dman.

https://www.espn.com/nhl/...name/nj/new-jersey-devils

Pretty solid offseason by them.

Ignoring the fact that the NHL is loading up on muscle again is a massive flaw...especially for a roster that is so young and more importantly mentally fragile.

Even in that horrendous embedded episode, the new depth that signed all discussed with Ruff how this roster needs to be tougher. It has been Adams biggest roster flaw since he became the GM.

I don't dispute much if what you said, which I have been arguing for 10 years or more on here... The best roster has a mix of skill and grit, talent and attitude, leaders and followers.
Adams has leaned way too far to skill and confused real leadership with false leadership. This offseason, the seems to have moved in the right direction, however that said, he still has a way to go in elite talent, and finding the proper leader.

Those two will prove to be very difficult to find... Hence why I am ready for a blockbuster trade to fill one or two of those

Well said. As for the bolded, Adams is not a decisive GM, he relies on his consultants...which IMO is why he can't close. He is too annoying/difficult to deal with.

Devils adding a former GM as a senior advisor. Do the Sabres need one of those for the rookie GM who hasn't made the playoffs in his four years? Nahhhhhhhhhhh
