Le premier choix des Canadiens de Montréal au dernier repêchage Ivan Demidov a été nommé capitaine de l'équipe des moins de 23 ans de la Russie pour le tournoi Nikolai Puchkov, un événement préparatoire à la saison de la KHL.

Demidov s'alignera pour la formation des moins de 23 ans, et ce, même si son club, le SKA de Saint-Pétersbourg, participe à l'événement.


Le jeune homme de 18 ans aura la possibilité d'évoluer abondamment avec l'équipe russe, ce qu'il n'aurait peut-être pas eu le loisir de faire avec le club de la KHL, qui pourrait le considérer comme un attaquant excédentaire.

L'opportunité pour Demidov de jouer avec une équipe russe U23 est une opportunité qu'il ne prendra pas à la légère, puisque la guerre en Ukraine a amené l'IIHF à interdire à la Fédération russe de hockey tout tournoi international, ce qui signifie que nous ne verrons pas Demidov au Mondial junior cette saison.


Demidov a été blanchi en quatre parties la saison dernière avec le SKA, mais il a touché la cible 23 fois en 30 parties avec le SKA junior.

Le tournoi Nikolai Puchkov regroupera les formations du SKA Saint-Pétersbourg, l'AK Bars, Severstal, le HC Sotchi, le Kunlun Red Star et l'équipe de Russie des moins de 23 ans.
