Especially since Cutter is too chicken-bleep to say anything.

What would Gauthier gain by saying anything at this point. The Flyers screwed up, royally. That's just the way it is.

Good points. I think with TK the Flyers did have more of an option to move him, especially if his contract demands were $10M AAV, which apparently they were not. There would have been a ton of interest in TK, but given his contract status, any team trading for him would have had to commit to a max term contract. That had to play a factor in what teams were willing to give up for TK. So then the Flyers had to weigh what they would get back if they traded TK and how they would fill the void he would leave on the roster. In the end they decided to extend him. Its a really tough call. I am less upset about extending TK, and more upset that players like Laughton and Risto are still here, though with Risto and his injury I can understand why. Clearly moving forward, the plan is to sign and trade their way to cup contention. I am skeptical this will be successful, since so many times in the past it has failed.
- jd250

then why even be skeptical?

maybe is just a mature person who is taking the high road.

I don't think he is taking the high road, I think he doesn't have a legitimate excuse.

They didn't have to worry about how they were going to fill the void by moving Konecny. It didn't need to be immediately filled. Is Risto no longer the improved player that you constantly spewed that he was? If Keith Jones has another press conference and says something different. You'll change your tune. It might take more than 8 minutes though.

I agree its a bad look, especially after the Guathier situation. But how do we know the Flyers didn't make it a competition? Its quite possible that the Flyers extended Fedotov to what many believed was too much AAV because of they knew Kolosov wanted out. I just think we need more facts.
- jd250

Those are facts that may one day leak out….I do know that unless you get a kid 100% committed in this situation then it probably is not going to end well. Hopefully he see’s enough Russian or Belarusian guys around here to feel more comfortable…but I almost say that in jest…I think there is more to his issues then being homesick.

What’s worse? Changing your mind based on new information or stubbornly clinging to the idea that you “absolutely sign and build around Coots” even when youve been proven wrong with that top notch “player assessment” of yours?

You not changing your mind is pretty stupid here. Its weak.

A lot of us were screaming at the top of our lungs to trade him before the extension. You just couldn’t see how this could’ve turned out poorly for the flyers. You were very wrong.

In Brieres interview about Michkov coming over he mentioned that the Bonus of Michkov coming over early is that he gets to play under Torts. To me tgat sounds like the plan is to move on from Torts whether it be the end of this year or next. Many analysts suggest he will retire as he is in his late 60s. Im sure the Flyers Front Office is aware if his goal is to retire

- hello it's me 2050

Here is a question for you. Since the Flyers last won the cup, which Flyers team do you think was the closest to winning the cup? For me the obvious choice was the 87' Flyers. That team was built primarily through the draft and the young players developed together so they were a tight group and had good chemistry, players like Zezel, Propp, Eklund, Mellanby and Tocchhet. The team was augmented by some good trades, e.g. Craven, Howe and McCrimmon, but the core of the team was built through the draft. Though times have changed, I still believe this is the best way to build a true contending team. This does not seem like the Flyers' plan. Extending Hathaway and TK while holding onto Laughton is not the mark of a team that wants to build through the draft. The Flyers have 6 picks in this coming draft, but I think they will use them to trade for players, and when cap space opens up next off-season, they will spend it on free agents. This is why I am skeptical.

My response to Briere would be that Tortorella is the exact opposite coach that I would want Michkov to develop under.

Surprised it took this long but i guess he was playing ball with the team while they tried to trade him. The player has no path to playing time in the NHL, i understand his position.

Right, just like Cutter was tired and didn't want to come to development camp because he needed a break. I think the homesick thing is a farce.

Look no one is going to deny that it would be helpful but this isnt a child. Kolosov is an adult. He shouldn't need hand holding. He knew well before hand that theres no Russian speaking Americans in Philadelphia. The other notion that he was abandoned is also ridiculous. The hotel is right next to the arena. He is fully able to take care of himself.

What does Gauthier gain by saying nothing? Did the Flyers screw up? Well the weight certainly falls in the Flyers favor but now Gauthier has to be the player he's been built up to be. If Gauthier flops, the Flyers look less incompetent and Gauthier looks like a player who is hard to please or work with, which might follow him around his entire career, especially without giving an explanation as to why he wanted to leave the Flyers in the first place. You get drafted to a team, you should play for that team. This situation is still playing out.

He is a young guy, going to a foreign country, a different culture where everything is different. Anyone would need a support structure in that situation. To say he shouldn't need hand holding, is just not fair.

Are you seriously comparing traveling with going to a foreign country to live?

Tortorella may get his rocks off if Michkov goes back at him but that doesn't make him the perfect coach for a player like Michkov.

I pay attention to what people say, but I pay more attention to what they do. Risto has improved greatly under Shaw, to a point where there was legitimate interest from other teams even with his current contract. Unfortunately he got hurt. My only point is at this point, the best thing for the Flyers to do is trade Risto and get out from under his contract, especially with the younger defenseman that seem ready to get a real NHL shot.
