He got a 2nd and a potential top 6 forward.

ex NHL tough guy turned into a sports commentator in QC

what could he not like about the trade?

i feel like this is a case of "there's one in ever crowd"

I mean, this is actually pretty damn cool. if Laine gets things going, the habs could have some pretty sweet combinations in their top 6. and Demidov hasn't even entered the picture yet.

The PP might by (frank)ing fun to watch next year, too.

I am pretty damn (frank)ing excited for the season to start now.

well Laine does have a certain reputation of being somewhat lazy or nonchalant, not very involved physically, and if he sucks he could become a distraction for the team more than anything. I get that part.

Delorme also said he'll gladly eat crow if he's wrong about him, so he wasn't being a complete imbecile about it either lol.

I think Laine will be focused for the first part of the season, where I might be concerned is if things do not go well at the start, can he keep his focus?

oh okay. as long as he wasn't trying to claim it wasn't a good trade. cause that'd mean he's been punched in the head too much.

Listen, if he can do 25G 25A and play 70 games, this is an easy win.

I believe that is achievable.

I guess finding out how much Laine has evolved and how he deals with all the pressure in MTL will be part of the adventure... what makes me a bit more confident about it is that the coach and management had a chance to speak with him before the trade happened, so they must've felt he's in the right state of mind to help the team out.

Like I said, in HuGo (the management team, not the blogger) we trust!

I am 100% sure they did their due diligence on this before pulling the trigger.

Now take that 2nd round pick, tie it tightly around Dvorak, and send him elsewhere with it.

there's always a certain risk, but what's awesome for the habs is that they barely paid anything to acquire him, so if ever it really doesn't work out, they aren't stuck with him for years and years to come, they can just move on and look elsewhere.

I think that's an amazing trade. St-Louis seems like the kind of coach that could bring back the magic to Laine's game. I expected Hughes to want Columbus to retain, which is why I thought Montréal would send a 2nd Columbus's way along with a D (the other option was Barron, I don't think any other players were in play). Gaining a 2nd might even be better. Imagine if Laine breaks out, it's Monahan all over again! And if he doesn't, they can buy him back next summer for somehwat cheap (or trade him again, who knows what trick Hughes has up his sleeve!)

its a low risk/high reward move. all it costs is money. and its not like the habs' owner doesn't have a poop ton.

iif healthy, laine will easily score 30 goals.
