I wish the sabres PR would just stop with those nicknames for the players

None of those are large market teams IMO. I guess it's how you define it. To me teams the large market teams are the original 6 and a handful of others, New Jersey not being one of them. At most they're middle of the road. Additionally, the Devils weren't some powerhouse the previous season.

NY isn't a large market? Newark is part of NY. He got drafted by the Caps, and played one year in St Louis. He played 13 of his 22 seasons in the nation's largest market

buffalo had no problem getting players when the team was owned by anyone not named pegula despite being a small market city

guys like Perreault played their entire careers here

guys like Andreychuk, Grier came back

guys like Teppo, Gilmour, Patrick played in their later years with the sabres

guys like Hasek, keep doing the charity work in the area

so many players retire in the WNY area

all of this was before Terry bought the team

that's tough

I have him for 50 starts and levi for 32 starts

I can't see him going 30-15-5

that changes if Reimer is the backup of course as he would be on pace then for 60-65 starts

Yep, market size has nothing to do with it. Phoenix is a massive market, and they couldn't sign anyone when they had a team, either

That's meant to be their go-to defensive line. I think it will do a good job at that.

winning culture closes that gap , see the bills

He was just 3 wins shy of 30 in 54 games last season

I wonder how hard lindy will ride the hot hand if levi sticks around. Im just praying we don't have 3 goalies again

Yesterday @ 12:06 AM ET
Nashville got Stammer, Marchy and Skjei
Columbus got Monahan
New Jersey got Pesce
Sharks got Toffoli
Seattle got Montour and Stephenson
Washington got Roy

Outside Stammer, none are super high end, but I think star quality for most. I think Homie has a valid point here. From Johnny Gaudreau to Scott Stevens, big names have signed for small market teams in the past.

I believe this conversation originated with the sabres needing an elite centerman to get to the Cup finals. All of those above are excellent players but elite centers are McDavid, Barkov, Mathews, MacKinnon, etc. and those players don't get traded unless they want to be traded. I don't think even re-aquiring Eichel for Tage moves the needle. How about trading prospects for NYR goalie? I doubt NYR would do it but it seems more likely to trade for an elite goalie than an elite centerman.

The better the Team, the more interest players have in playing there. The top two things that all players want: (1) get paid what they feel they are worth and (2) win Stanley Cups.

But they will forego, at least in part, (1) in search of (2)

A #9 should be a big asset, if you're trying to make trade package.
- Lunaion

You guys are incredible with moving the goal posts.
He isn't a 9 anymore is what I have been told. He was a dilapidated former first whose value was significantly depreciated and further eroded by injury history and not being able to make the WJT.

He only suck as a prospect here, yet is hailed as the 2nd Coming once traded.

I love the kid, wish him the absolute best and was/is OK with the trade.
Moving on now, he isn't ours anymore.
The '25 and '26 1st have supreme trade value

Embrace the McLeod!

Ryan McLeod is being heavily undersold by the fanbase. He flipped the ice last year and had some of the hardest usage in the league last season.

Does he have the offensive upside of a Mittelstadt ? Probably not.

He more than makes up for it though with his 200 foot play.

Really good fit as the 3C

I think people are sleeping on the existing roster.

It is ok to be pissed off about not maximizing the cap space and spending to the cap, but I think most people are sleeping on how good JJ Peterka, Jack Quinn, Zach Benson, Ryan McLeod, and Jason Zucker (had a higher WAR than Skinner last year) truly are.

I shot my load a year early last year saying this team was going to break the drought, I don’t think I’ll be wrong this year

Also, Rochester will be must see TV and a potential Calder Cup candidate themselves.

Stay safe out there gents. The last few months were just the appetizer to what’s about to come over the next 10-12 months.

God bless

I agree, its a bit of a weighted average with the player cost going up as the Stanley Cup potential goes down.

Team location is usually a secondary consideration, more of a tie breaker when several teams have similar offers on the Table.

I don't think people are discounting the current roster and most are looking forward to seeing what they can do, but by no means is this current roster a slam dunk to make the playoffs. Many of us would have like to seen a proven top 6 player brought in to replace the Skinner hole and give us better odds of making the playoffs.

As I said earlier, if this core does show progress then this team has big problems because there isn't anything in Rochester that can come here and save the day. The prospects in Rochester are only complimentary pieces to the current Sabres core.

I don't think Boston's team is up there with the rest but the system definitely makes the whole better than the pieces.
