The hockey season is a long endurance battle to escape uninjured and not fatigued at some point. So I expect a number of prospects will get an opportunity to play a few games or maybe more

Out of camp Slaggert is the only newbie while I would love to see Nazar wind up with a half of a season in the big show. I am intrigued by Hayes though because he has the scoring ability to receive and shoot fluidly and has improved aspects in his game the past two seasons

The following season and particularly the second season after the upcoming campaign, is when I expect a tremendous amount of prospects filter into the lineup. In some cases there are players who need not only development time in Rockford but at least one if not two seasons to work out and become much stronger

Korchinski is an interesting player because it is difficult to say whether he goes to the AHL Both Philips and KK are needing to play well in the exhibition season

If Smith and Anderson continue to show well in preseason, no way Slaggert starts on the big club.

I think Anderson was a bit under-appreciated for his play last year, he just didn't have a lot of offensive flash, but often made the right play/safe play to be solid defensively.

I think this is an example of the plan KD/LR have spoken about, they have vets that can come in and play NHL hockey, but aren't "so good" that a young guy can't crack the lineup if they are really ready. Slaggert won't be handed a spot, he will have to play better than those guys or wait for enough injuries to pile up.

It's nice we have a few less passengers in the lineup.

I just enjoy that we won't have 2 lines that have no business being in the NHL. Step in the right direction. Slaggert if he doesn't make it out of camp it won't be long before he the first call up for bottom 6 forwards, so much to like about his game.

I just do not see how you can hold back the youngsters when they have already had a season of AHL apprenticeship. They are eventually going to dress a whole lot of young talent and just go with it for that season - I see this happening not next year but the season after. Solid fourth line guys like Anderson could go at trade deadline- maybe one type 4th line.veteran stays but Slaggert also can be employed on L4

There are players like Dach, perhaps even Greene - who plays the defensive side too - even AHL kids Ludwinski or a surprise like Luypen get a crack. Of course I expect Greene would vacate L4 but he can play there whilst KD allows for him to gain experience and perhaps he develops into a L2 or L3 two way forward

They [ prospects] are cheap and hungry. Some of the prospects will eventually prove they can play on a higher line and some are probably going to L3 and L4 guys basically their career.

Obviously I am projecting many prospects do have an NHL ceiling; I don’t think for most part the kids will be rushed. Never before has the farm system looked as deep and promising so we will just wait and see. More top line forwards are needed but Moore, Lardis, the Russian kid is promising (a nice start). I am going to keep claiming Hayes is going to be a real nice surprise, Mr Richochet, until I am proven wrong. Hayes will show he can move between L 1-2 because he could be a solid player with shot and is a goal scorer + is a descent skater.

#Blackhawks projected lineup for Friday’s preseason game in Detroit:
Reichel-Nazar-Lardis
Dach-Guttman-Hayes
Slaggert-Spellacy-Smith
Sanford-Ludwinski-Anderson

Korchinski-Brodie
Allan-Crevier
Phillips-Strand

- breadbag

Unless Detroit runs out the same kind of line up at home, this one could get ugly.

The 2007-08 Ice Hogs were pretty stacked, some had their best seasons elsewhere.

Bolland
Bickell
Brower
Byfuglein
Crawford
Hjarmallson
Versteeg
Skille
Samsanov
DowellPartaneau

And that year was the rookie year of Toews and Kane.

Nature of pre-season, except for maybe the last pre-season game when the teams have cut their rosters, the home team plays mostly their NHL players and the road teams play mostly their prospects, although the rule is you have to dress 8 "NHL Players", but that is loosely defined.

Slaggert is another I missed on. Like Nazar, the kid has shown IQ at the big league level I never saw in him at lower levels and I saw him enough I should have picked up on that.

I see Slaggert much as I do Anderson although Anderson shows more offensive upside. Simply said both kids just make plays, make the right plays, play the right way, kinda player coaches love for their reliability/predictability.. 5 yrs from now I could see these two on a 4th line of a top 10 team.

Far as I know that's how NHL clubs still do it. Dress lotsa vets at home and prospects on the road.... But, think it was Bamford who said DET dressed 11 of 20 players who played with the big club last yr vs the Hawks.

Well, looking at that lineup, it sure as heck looks loosely defined. By the way, no Kurashev, Foligno, or D!ckinson yet, maybe tomorrow night.

Who's gonna play 2C, Lou? You'd think they'd wanna get Kurashev a lotta looks with different mates at 2C. Same with AA?

Looking at practice lines for tonight's tilt I love the speed of L1 with Lardis-Nazar-Reichel but is it me or do the Hawks never miss a chance to set Reichel up to fail?

Started last yr as a 2C with horrid mates and from the start it was all downhill from Game 1. Now in a yr where a probably fragile Reichel is trying to find his way they start him on L1 with two very green mates.

Yea, it's getting time for Reichel to sink or swim but don't you wanna find nice soft kushy spots for the kid to get some positive results to start things off?

I'm sure they would love if he could take a top six role, but I think the overriding theme this year is "go take your roster spot". He needs to make the most of whatever opportunity there is for him. He actually ended on a pretty good high after being in Rockford for the playoffs and playing for Germany.

Thats a great question, how about Boisvert in three years? As far as Reichel, you’d think they would try and set him up to succeed, but they do the opposite. Last year they had him playing on the fourth line just to give him ice time, but he’s not that type of forward. How about the following.
Hall/Bedard/Kurashev

Didn't Reichel show last year that he couldn't handle center in the NHL? They at least put him on a line with two offensive players. Nazar got the butterflies out last game and now maybe he simplifies. Lardis gives him a true shooter on his line for when he opts to pass (which he has seemed to do too much in the past). I don't see how this line is so bad for him. Sure they are both very young, but it's better than putting him with Maroon and Donato.

Yes, Reichel struggled last year at center, shoot, he struggled period. Also yes, I’d rather see him with skilled players vs Maroon and Donato, so looking forward to see what they do tonight. I don’t give up on young players easily, to a fault, I’d make a terrible GM, but I’d really like to see what Reichel can do with two legitimate NHL wings on each side.
